All students experience learning losses when they do not participate in educational activities during the summer. Most lose about two months of grade level equivalency in math skills over the summer months and students who don't have access to educational resources lose more than two months in reading achievement, despite the fact that their middle-class peers move ahead. To prevent this summer setback, parents must start in September the process of getting their child into a high quality summer program.
