Last week I teased you with an AWESOME video...a fantastic piece NPR did on the Danilo Perez foundation...and for reasons unknown to me NPR pulled the video down within hours of The Upton Report going out. I apologize for the tease, and I've written a few eMails looking for an explanation. If I find the video again I'll include it on
John Patitucci's artist page on our site.
This weeks video is a short fun little playing tip from yours truly. I shot it in response to a customers feedback on something I do with just about every bass I pickup. I'll tease you with just that little nugget...at just over a minute long you can spare the minute to go watch! ;)
Give us a call and lets talk about your next upright bass! We love what we do and we'd love to do it for you!

The UB Standard Hybrid Double Bass represents our entry-level hybrid upright bass, carefully conceived with the playability and resonance of all our models.
Here is an Abraham Prescott double bass, probably from the 1830s, fully restored by Upton Bass about ten years ago.
We believe it was cut down from it's original large pattern with the lower bout truncated. It probably started life very similar to the large 1840s Prescott we also have in the shop. Shortened to be "easier to live with," it still is a large volume instrument pushing lots of air. In our restoration the fingerboard projection was modernized and the scroll meticulously rebuilt.
This has been a very enthusiastic jazz instrument since the restoration, but would thrive in other styles. The feel is surprisingly modern and responsive, with the charms and magnetism of a nearly 200 year-old historic double bass.
Did you know Upton Bass is on a Historic Mill Site?
Located in the Burnett's Corner historic district of Old Mystic, CT, the Upton Bass barn brings back to life an important part of early American history when small groups of craftsmen created things with their hands...
