Pentecost is this Sunday
This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, one of the most ancient feasts  of the Church, and celebrated early enough to be mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (
20:16
) and St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians (
16:8
). Pentecost is often referred to as the "birthday of the church."
In English speaking countries, Pentecost is also known as Whitsunday. The origin of this name is unclear, but may derive from the Old English word for "White Sunday," referring to the practice of baptizing converts clothed in white robes on the Sunday of Pentecost.
Pentecost is from the Greek word "Pentekostos", which literally means "fifty." It is the 50th day after
Easter
(if we count both Easter and Pentecost.) Pentecost celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in the book of Acts, ushering in the beginning of the Church.

Necessity Pantry needs for May
The Necessity Pantry, a joint outreach ministry of the Episcopal Churches in eastern Jackson County, especially needs toothpaste and brushes, canned food, pastas of all kinds, size 4/5 diapers and S/M Depends.
