As we celebrated Provider Appreciation Day and Teacher Appreciation Day this month, I was reminded of Mrs.Tennant, or "Mama" as many of us affectionately call her. A warm, older women, Mama's house was a place of comfort and care, imagination and learning. She welcomed us into her lovely home every morning with open arms, walking me and my classmates to school and then home again. Somehow she and her helpers juggled many of us, from newborns to middle schoolers, and never broke a sweat. She spoiled us with large, tasty picnics in her bountiful backyard, and taught us life lessons that I will never forget. For five years, Mama was there, a guiding, caring, loving light until my family moved across town. Time spent at Mrs.Tennant's will always be fondly etched in my mind.
It was not until I began working at 4Cs of Alameda County that I realized Mrs.Tennant was a family child care provider. Just like the hundreds of providers, teachers, and caregivers we work with - whether they work in a center, family child care home, or as a family member, friend, or neighbor caring for our youngest learners - Mama's love, guidance, and impact on my life, decades later, has shaped the woman I became. Thank you to the men and women who fill this role for the babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children in Alameda County. The love and learning you provide day in and day out are vital to the development of our young children and your lessons will touch their lives forever. We appreciate you this May and every day!
Be Well,
Renee S. Herzfeld, Executive Director

Thank You for Giving
Despite Glitches, East Bay Gives a Success!
On May 3rd, 4Cs of Alameda County participated in a national day of giving back. Sponsored by the East Bay Community Foundation, East Bay Gives was an opportunity for community members to 'give where you live.' Unfortunately, the software platform used nationally, Kimbia, had major technical difficulties and many donations could not be made or were delayed. After extending the giving period through the 4th, 4Cs of Alameda County's raised  more than $1,200 thanks to 40 individual donations! Thank you all for your patience, persistence, and generousity. You make a difference in the lives of Alameda County's children, families, and child care providers. Missed East Bay Gives? Visit our donation page for more ways to give to 4Cs of Alameda County.
