Celebrating 30 Years of Service in Alexandria

CFNC Celebrates 30 Years of Service

The Child and Family Network Centers (CFNC) is proud of its 30 years of service in Alexandria. We value the relationships that we have built with each of you, and we thank YOU, our supporters, who have brought us to where we are today. This has been a huge year for CFNC, and we are so grateful for the great strides we have made. Just this winter we moved into a fantastic new headquarters where we have relocated our administrative offices, and are now serving an additional 36 children and their families at this site; this summer we graduated or first classes from our Wheeler Avenue classrooms; and just this last month we built a brand new playground for our children in the West End. Since we opened in 1984, CFNC has served nearly 3,000 three and four year olds. We can't wait to see what we can accomplish with your help in the next thirty years!
Our Children Can't Wait Capital Campaign Surpasses $2 Million Milestone!

CFNC is pleased to report that the Our Children Can't Wait Capital Campaign has surpassed $2 million! Achieving this outstanding result in only 16 months is a great testament to the amazing giving spirit of our community. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this effort to date.

2,600 children ages zero to six are living in poverty in Alexandria's West End. Compelled by this extraordinary fact, in April 2013, CFNC launched our robust, multi-phase capital campaign which allowed us to buy the 5,200 square foot building at 3700 Wheeler Ave in the West End of Alexandria, Virginia that we now call home. New Playground at CFNC Headquarters

Exclamations of joy and giggles and laughter were heard all up and down Wheeler Avenue on September 26th as students at CFNC set their eyes on their new playground for the first time.

Two local organizations teamed up to provide the much needed 2,500-square-foot playground with glide slide, rock climber, moon rock, toss up, water and sand tables, and a trike path at CFNC's new headquarters. Click here to read more. Visit our Facebook page for more pictures.

Fall Into Giving Starts Today
Starting today through October 31, The Child & Family Network Centers will be participating in Fall into Giving, a donation drive for goods and items for nonprofits serving Alexandria organized by ACTion Alexandria, an initiative of ACT for Alexandria. Our goal for Fall into Giving is to collect much needed classroom and office supplies for our 10 classrooms throughout the city.

We hope you will consider donating one item to help us reach our goal. To simplify the donation process, we have created a virtual wish list on Amazon.com. Starting today, please visit our wish list at: http://bit.ly/CFNCWishList to donate items to our drive.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

CFNC is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15! Each year, CFNC serves at-risk children and their families in their own neighborhoods in order to prepare them for success in school and life by providing caring, high-quality, free education and related services. Our families speak 13 languages and hail from 21 countries, and we are proud to say that 77 percent of the families we serve are of Hispanic Heritage.

Every day we make an effort in our classrooms to celebrate and honor the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Check out a video below of the kids in our classroom celebrating America's Hispanic Heritage.

CFNC is Changing Lives

Nkunzi Rukundo unexpectedly lost her job.  This single mom of four from Africa didn't know where to turn for help.  She had been living in the United States for 10 years and friends told her about The Child and Family Network Centers.  When she enrolled her child in our preschool, she met with one of our social workers, Linda Nsiah, during a home visit.  Linda explained all of the services CFNC offers and based on the rapport Linda built, Nkunzi felt comfortable enough to let her know that she had recently lost her job as a home health aide because her client had lost his Medicare coverage. See the rest of the story here.
