Westland Will Join 400 Cities Nationwide to go the "Extra Mile" for Residents
Westland, MIOn November 1, 2014, the City of Westland and Mayor William Wild will join Mayors and city leaders across the country as they stand up and recognize Extra Mile Day. Extra Mile Day acknowledges people and organizations who are creating positive change in their local communities through their "extra mile" efforts in volunteerism and service.

"Our Westland community has seen great positive growth over the past year, including being named to the list of the 50 Best Cities to Live in by the publication 24/7 Wall St.," said Mayor Wild. "That is made possible through the efforts and dedication of our involved residents and local organizations and businesses."

In recognition of the Extra Mile initiative, Westland will submit the names of up to five people or organizations that are making significant contributions to better the community. The City is asking residents to nominate individuals who they believe go the "extra mile" for Westland.

Residents can look for Facebook posts starting on Monday, October 20 and make their nomination, along with a brief summary of how their nominee has gone the "extra mile," in the comments section. Nominations may also be submitted via Facebook messenger.

The community is also encouraged to submit their pictures and tell the City of how they are participating in Extra Mile Day. Whether it's raking leaves for seniors in need of assistance or other volunteer work across Westland, the City wants to hear residents' stories.

Shawn Anderson founded "Extra Mile Day" in 2009 with a vision that one person can make a difference. Since its inception, "Extra Mile Day" has grown from 23 participating cities to over 400 cities, and this year's Extra Mile Day hopes to set another record for participation.

More information about "Extra Mile Day" the "Extra Mile Heroes," the City of Westland's official proclamation, as well as a quote from Mayor Wild can be found on the website at: http://extramileamerica.org/extramileday.php
