Happy Older Americans Month!
LAAC Member Story
May is Older Americans Month, so LAAC reached out to one of our Senior Legal Services Provider members, Senior Citizens Legal Services (SCLS)  to give us the scoop on their latest work in the community.

In California, 33 legal services organizations specifically provide services to seniors. One of these providers, SCLS is dedicated to assisting seniors who are poor, disadvantaged or disabled who would not otherwise have access to the justice system

Join us for the Family Law & Self-Help Conference!

The Judicial Council and the Legal Aid Association of California (LAAC) are proud to present the 2016 Family Law and Self-Help Conference. The conference will take place on Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14 at the  Judicial  Council Milton Marks Conference Center, located at 455  Golden  Gate Ave. in San Francisco. 

Staff at LAAC member programs can attend for $125 for one day, or $200 for both days! This year we have 28 sessions to choose from. Monday offers 6 hours of CLE and Tuesday offers 5.5 hours. You can receive up to 11.5 hours of CLE, including specialty credit, if you attend both days. Register now!

Register now for  David Cruickshank's  Training of Trainers Workshop!
The workshop will be held on August 1 and 2, 2016.  Deadline to register is June 15, 2016.
This workshop, held at the State Bar office in San Francisco, will  prioritize IOLTA and court-based programs. 


Ready for Boot Camp?
 
LAAC in co-sponsoring Practicing Law Institute's Public Interest Boot Camp on  Thursday, June 2  in San Francisco (with remote viewing also available). 

The  Public Interest Boot Camp  is a free program designed to prepare law students holding summer internships with public interest law organizations, government agencies, and other legal nonprofits to better serve  low and moderate income communities .   All students and public interest advocates are encouraged to attend this program to develop new skills for productive and successful client relationships.  That means you should come too, and bring your peers, clerks, and law students!  Check it out here!
It's Not Too Late - Don't Forget to Submit Your Family Law Award Nominations!

The Family Law Awards recognize family law advocates for their outstanding dedication and commitment to legal services for low-income Californians. 

Awards are given to those who have demonstrated exemplary service to low-income clients in various categories. The deadline to nominate is THIS FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2016!
