Dear Friends,

This month, we are excited to host  Dr. Andrew Bacevich , a professor of international affairs and history at Boston University, to speak on America in the Middle East as a continuation of our Great Decisions Series. Dr. Bacevich will be joining us on  Thursday, May 26 at Suffolk University - take a look at his recent article in Politico and we hope to see you there!

Mark your calendars for our Global Education events coming up in June, as well - you'll be able to see the full list here  - especially our next installment of the Chat & Chowder series with Elizabeth Wood, Professor of Russian and Soviet History at MIT. She'll be speaking on her new book, Roots of Russia's War in Ukraine, over some of the Downtown Harvard Club's delicious chowder on June 1. Register now to reserve your space!

On the Citizen Diplomacy side of the WorldBoston house, we'll be welcoming seven international delegations studying a variety of interesting topics, including a group from Colombia focusing on the historical memory of ethnic groups. This group is seeking home hospitality on either Saturday, May 14, or Sunday, May 15. See the sidebar for more information on how you can host these visitors for dinner.

Finally, we're delighted to announce that Jarred Guthrie, Portfolio Development Manager at Shell TechWorks, has joined the board of WorldBoston. I know all of us will give Jarred a warm welcome as he supports the efforts of WorldBoston and our mission of international engagement.

The International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program and WorldBoston's main citizen diplomacy partner. Launced in 1940, the IVLP is a professional exchange program that seeks to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations through carefully designed short-term visits to the U.S. for current and emerging foreign leaders. These visits reflect the International Visitors' professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.

The U.S. Department of State's bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs adminsters the IVLP. In doing so, the bureau enters cooperative agreements with National Program Agences, a group of private, not-for-profit organizations based in Washington, D.C., that design and implement national IVLP itineraries. In addition to the National Program Agencies, the IVLP relies on the commitment and skills of local community organizations across the U.S., known as Centers for International Visitors (CIVs). Under the professional association of Global Ties U.S., local CIV members develop professional programs, arrange cultural activies, and provide home hospitality for international visitors.

WorldBoston is part of the Global Ties Network of more than 90 CIVs in 45 states.
