Home hospitality entails hosting international visitors for a lunch or dinner in your home (not for an overnight stay) and provides a crucial cultural component to their understanding of homes and families in our community.

Multi-Regional: Media Literacy - Promoting Civil Society Through New Media
May 1-5
A group of twenty-two journalists, editors, and other media professionals from around the world will visit Boston to learn about digital engagement, online journalism, media and technology innovations, and government transparency. They will meet with representatives from university media programs, government initiatives, and social justice nonprofits to get a well-rounded perspective of Boston's media literacy.

Canada: Opportunities for Young Entrepreneurs
May 11-14
A delegation of five business development officers and CEOs from Canada is stopping by Boston to gain a better understanding of entrepreneurship in the United States, specifically focusing on current entrepreneurial projects and developments, networking best practices, and business development resources. They will interact with various investment and development companies, government resources to understand U.S. policy, and technology/innovation labs such as MIT.

Colombia: Ethnic Communities Historical Memory
May 12-17
Four professionals from Colombia, including an indigenous people's rights lawyer, a museum coordinator, and two commission coordinators on displaced people and peace, will visit the U.S. to explore how to use history to understand past and present race issues and to promote reconciliation. They will meet with experts in this topic as well as perform community service and learn about Boston's immigrant history.

Kazakhstan: U.S. Think Tanks and Foreign Policy
May 18-21
A group of four visitors from Kazakhstan, including two in academia and two foreign policy experts, is coming to Boston to examine think tanks: their relationship to the government, their influence on policy makers, how they function, and how they gather information. They are eager to meet with academic resources - including students - to focus on their objectives as a whole and also the current presidential election.

Russia: Burn Treatment and Prevention
May 18-22
Six doctors from Russia will come to Boston to learn about pediatric care for burn victims and research and long-term care for burn patients, especially psychological services. They will meet with Boston hospitals and physicians specializing in pediatric and burn care, such as Shriner's Hospital, to best understand this topic.

Afghanistan: Promoting Women's Athletics
May 21-25
Eight Afghan professionals in are coming to the U.S. to learn about the gender balance, public access, and fairness laws regarding women's athletics and how professional organizations and programs promote women's entrepreneurship, business development, and empowerment through sports and fitness. Meetings are being arranged with local public schools to see how sports and athletics are promoted in the curriculum at an early age, as well as different athletic companies, sports teams, and athletic fundraisers.

Multi-Regional: Women and Justice
May 31-June 4
Seventeen officials, professionals, and experts in many fields from all over the world are coming to Boston to better understand gender equality and responses to discrimination, women in state and local politics, and developing leadership skills for women and girls. They will meet with lawyers, government policy officials, and nonprofits focused on women's economic independence and empowerment.

The International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program and WorldBoston's main citizen diplomacy partner. Launced in 1940, the IVLP is a professional exchange program that seeks to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations through carefully designed short-term visits to the U.S. for current and emerging foreign leaders. These visits reflect the International Visitors' professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.
The U.S. Department of State's bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs adminsters the IVLP. In doing so, the bureau enters cooperative agreements with National Program Agences, a group of private, not-for-profit organizations based in Washington, D.C., that design and implement national IVLP itineraries. In addition to the National Program Agencies, the IVLP relies on the commitment and skills of local community organizations across the U.S., known as Centers for International Visitors (CIVs). Under the professional association of Global Ties U.S., local CIV members develop professional programs, arrange cultural activies, and provide home hospitality for international visitors.
WorldBoston is part of the Global Ties Network of more than 90 CIVs in 45 states.
