Kicking off new preaching series The book of "The Acts of the Apostles" in the New Testament is the action packed story of the first followers of Jesus. For continuity, it makes more sense to read it like a book from beginning to end, instead of looking at isolated passages. So you are invited to do that (it is only about 35 pages). We have created a reading guide so you know which part of the book we will be focused on. To view the reading guide click here. If you have questions as you read send them to [email protected] so we can reflect on them together. In order to get through 20 episodes there will be different sermons on Sundays and Wednesdays. If you miss a Sunday you can always catch up on YouTube. |
Greetings Joy Lutheran Church
Members! My name is Shannon Clarke and I am your new Administrative Assistant. I am very excited to be a part of the Joy community. I live in Hastings with my husband, Daniel, our Black Lab, Walker, our Boxer, Woody, and cat Cheetah. Dan and I have been married for 10 years and enjoy an easygoing country lifestyle. In our spare time, we enjoy traveling, camping, motorcycling, hot rods, boating and visiting with family and friends. My family and I own a hotel and restaurant called The Grant House Hotel & Eatery in Rush City, MN. That is where I was working before coming here. I have also been a Dispatcher for a Powersports Auction Company and a Flight Attendant for the Department of Defense. I look forward to getting to know you all on a more personal level. Please feel free to let me know how I can be of service to you!

Women's Bible Study May 10th -
All women are invited to the May Bible Study. The topic for this study is "Mary and Elizabeth: Sisters Across the Generations." Theme verses are Luke 1:26-56. This is an intergenerational Bible Study which will help us understand one another across the generations as supportive sisters, to empathize with Elizabeth and Mary's grace and disgrace, fear, surprise and joy, and to hear and heed God's calling to bear Christ to the world. Please come to either of our studies on May 10th in the Fireside Room at church: 1:30 P.M. (Wilma Timm, Leader) or 7:00 P.M. (Diane Meyer, Leader).

Change in Men's Bible Study dates
Normally the men meet every other Saturday morning for breakfast and looking at the texts for the coming Sunday. All are welcome, check with the church office as the location sometimes changes depending on who is cooking. To avoid conflicting with the plant market and memorial day weekend we are moving the next study up to May 7 at Joy. Hope to see you then.

Card Ministry
Thank you to the following women who have been making cards that are given to people in our congregation who are ill, grieving, or celebrating special events: Emilie Horken, Jean Setering, Deanna Roen, Susan Metcalf, Shirley Johnson, Julie Fiedler, Char Burgeson, Sue Hood, Sharyn Calton, Judy Hamann, Diane Meyer, Joan Northouse, and Lynda Johnson. The cards are also available for sale in the narthex for $2.00 - a GREAT bargain for a beautiful card! The cards were also sold at the Synod Women's Convention in Eau Claire on April 29-30 with many convention attendees commenting on how beautiful the cards are.
