NYCOMEC Successfully Passes AOA OPTI Accreditation Inspection

Following a two-day accreditation inspection conducted by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) on April 19 and 20, 2016, NYCOMEC was apprised by AOA Inspection team leader, David Plundo, D.O. that it had successfully met all 58 Standards within the AOA's Basic Documents for Postdoctoral Training. Dr. Plundo went on to say that the inspection team found zero deficiencies, had zero recommendations, and was awarding NYCOMEC a commendation for its outstanding efforts in strategic planning. This is the second time NYCOMEC has achieved a perfect score following its AOA OPTI accreditation inspection .
Attending the AOA's exit conference, which concluded the inspection, were NYCOMEC's Board leadership: Wolfgang Gilliar, D.O., Jerry Balentine, D.O., David Broder, D.O., Robert Yost, M.S., Martin Diamond, D.O. and OPTI staff.

The inspectio n beg an at  the NYITCOM-Old Westbury ca mpus and involved a day of interviews and meetings among the AOA inspection team and  members of NYCOMEC's Board of Directors, committees, and other affiliated individuals, including TouroCOM and NYITCOM staff.
The AOA inspection team discussed postdoctoral education with NYCOMEC DMEs and Program Directors at Nassau University Medical Center, which served as the hospital-based entity for the inspection.

On April 20, the inspection took place  onsite at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), where the inspection team met with DMEs and Program Directors from various NYCOMEC-sponsored programs. They also met with members of NYCOMEC's Trainee Committee to gain a deeper understanding of their educational experiences.
NYCOMEC Trainees met with the AOA inspection team to discuss their experience with the OPTI.

Throughout the survey, the AOA inspectors c omplimented the collegiality among the OPTI's constituencies and were impressed by the degree of their engagement at each session.

NYCOMEC extends its appreciation to everyone who participated in the inspection process, both in person and via telephone. We truly appreciate your time and expertise.
