Our church directory is missing too many photos! If you are a member or member family whose photo is not in our online directory (www.upcch.org) or if you would like to update your photo, please mark your calendar for our next photo shoot!

Plan to join us this Sunday, October 26, on The Landing between worship services from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. to have your picture taken. It will take just a few minutes. We want to include you in the church directory!

November 2, All Saints Sunday

Our Margaret McLaughlin Endowment Preacher for 2014 is the Rev. Dr. Scott Black Johnston, senior pastor of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. He will preach at both services on Sunday, November 2, which is All Saints Sunday.

Prior to going to Fifth Avenue Church in 2008, Scott was senior pastor of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. He also served as professor of preaching and worship at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Texas. He and his wife Amy, a nurse practitioner, have been married for 17 years and are the parents of Izzy (9) and Ollie (5). Scott is a graduate of Yale Divinity School and holds a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Choir News

Time for some Halloween fun at choir! This Sunday, October 26, the Junior and Children's Choirs are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to choir rehearsal. The Children's Choir will rehearse their anthems and play some Halloween games during rehearsal. Following their rehearsal, the Children's Choir will have a snack together in the Fellowship Hall.

The Junior Choir will rehearse from 4:15 - 4:55 p.m., then have a pizza dinner in the Fellowship and carpool to Mardi Gras Bowling Center for an hour of bowling. All God's Children Got A Place in the Choir! Join us!

Change of rehearsal time for Youth Choir: This Sunday, the Youth Choir will rehearse from 3 - 3:45 p.m. in Vance Barron Hall. The youth are invited to go to the Corn Maze with PYC from 12 - 3 p.m., so we've changed our rehearsal time to make it easier on choir and PYC families for pick up. See you at rehearsal. We have lots of music to learn!

Adult Christian Education This Sunday
Term 1: Through October 26

All are welcome to any of the Adult Christian Education classes, offered on Sundays at UPC from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m.

Connections: The documentary Budrus, the story of Ayed Morrar, an unlikely community organizer who unites Palestinians from all political factions and Israelis to save his village from destruction by Israel's Separation Barrier. The themes resonate with Connections discussions over the years - uniting community, going after a dream, pursuing unchartered options. Location: Vance Barron Hall.

On October 26, please extend a gracious welcome to Pastor Leon Dorleans, the founder and executive director of Haiti Outreach Ministries (a ministry we support through our global outreach at UPC). Pastor Leon will be joining us this Sunday in the Connections class.

Faith Issues in Literature: Discussion of the essay "Into Thin Mud," from Anne Lamott's book Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith. Copies will be available during the class. Location: Terrace Room.

Feasting on the Word: Expands our understanding of the lectionary scripture for each Sunday. This curriculum is coordinated with the children's ministry planning. This Sunday: Matthew 22:34-46. Facilitator: Bob Dunham. Location: Fellowship Hall/Stephen Ministry Room.

Capital Campaign Construction Update

This Sunday, worship will take place in the Sanctuary.

Due to construction, the church offices and upper level classrooms are not accessible at this time.

As we strive to stay flexible and patient during construction, we're counting on our members to do so as well! Thank you!

If you'd like to see how the construction is coming along, please click here to see pictures on the UPC Facebook page. Note you don't need to have a Facebook account to view the photos.

Parking During Construction
During the week, we'll need to have parking spots set aside for the construction crew and their materials. All of the middle parking spaces in the Robertson Lane lot will be reserved Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

There will be a few visitor spots available next to the church building in the afternoon, but those will be the only non-reserved parking spots during construction. If you need to come to the church during the day, please plan to park in the parking deck at 150 East Rosemary St. or call in advance to see if there are any other spots available.

We look forward to worshiping with you!
