It Just Takes One
More than 80 children and youth participated in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities during two weeks in October at the four Boys & Girls Club of Benton County facilities. Activities included building an air powered car, constructing structures using triangles and squares (marshmallow challenge), technical writing creating computer codes involving the 'angry bird' game, and discovering the chemical reactions from combinations of Coke and Menthos.  The Boys & Girls Club is a recent recipient of an Arkansas Space Grant Consortium that will be used to hold aeronautic STEM activities through May 2015.     
 

Rogers Club Extends Hours for Intersession



During the Eastside's fall Intercession the Boys & Girls Club of Benton Coty Rogers Unit was open from 7:30 AM-7:00 PM.   A collaboration with the Rogers School District provided breakfast and lunch for our club members. During Intersession staff members got creative and invented a new game for kids to play- "Claim and Conquer Dodgeball" pictured here.

Bella Vista Kids Attend Fireball Run

 

The Fireball Run is a more-cerebral version of CBS' The Amazing Race according to J. Sanchez, executive producer.  The teams play on a life-size version of Trivial Pursuit where America is the game board.  The Bentonville Fireball Run will be shown in season eight. The teams are in the process of traveling through eight cities in eight days. They started in Frisco, Texas, on Sept. 27 and will end in Independence, Mo., on Oct. 8.  The 40, two-member teams will started arriving on the downtown square at 3 p.m. There, they were be given their missions to complete in Bentonville.   

The Boys & Girls Club of Benton County Rogers Unit is undergoing a facelift thanks to funds from Lowe's Home Improvement and many other donation.  This week the Unit was helped-out by a handy group of Walmart Global Business Process Associates who helped with ceiling tiles, room organization, and putting together new storage units. Unit Director Todd Huff said of the team "This was an awesome group!"  

 

Carl & Aleen McKinney Unit Back to School Bash
To welcome kids back to the fall after school session, the Boys & Girls Club of Benton County McKinney Unit held a Back to School Bash.  Kids were treated to a variety of organized games and events and prizes.  A great time was had by all!
 
Benton County Master Gardeners and Lowe's Volunteers Give the Rogers Unit Exterior a Makeover

Master Gardeners Eleanor Kabala, Corky Fuller, Crystal Watson' Diane Anderson, Sara Van Vleck, Kim Seay; Lin Charpentier, and Lorae Fuller along with Lowe's volunteers Mary and Dusty Donahue and Lorae Fuller used evergreen plants for year round color in 4 of the beds with the 5th bed to be used for classroom projects.  Shrubs were chosen so the sign would always be visible, none were dangerous to the children, and would not obscure visibility of the kids. Scotts donated all of the soil and mulch while the plants were purchased with grant monies from Lowe's.  

Football Program Plays at Razorback Stadium
In a new twist in the Athletics football program for 2014, the 7th grade teams each were representing their schools.  As part of the program, they were given the privilege of playing games at Razorback Stadium.  Pictured here is the Fulbright Team.  Woo pig sooie! Go Hogs!
 
2014 Family Plus Cook-Off

Join us on October 23rd, 2014 at 6:00 PM for this annual event.  One family from each of our four Clubs will compete in an Iron Chef event for the coveted title during our Family PLUS Cook-Off sponsored by Kimberly-Clark. The event will be held at the McKinney Unit - 2801 N. Walker, Bentonville. Bring your whole family and your favorite desert to enter into the desert competition to this exciting event and see who will be this year's winner and enjoy refreshments.

Boys & Girls Club and Rogers Oliver Garden Celebrate Great Futures


 
The Boys & Girls Club of Benton County will participate in the first Round Up Campaign partnership during the annual Never Ending Pasta Bowl promotion, which runs from September 22 through November 9. Guests will be invited to join Olive Garden in supporting America's youth by rounding up their checks to the nearest whole dollar. This partnership is part of Olive Garden's ongoing commitment to serve its local communities and is in support of BGCA's mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. One-half of all proceeds will stay with the local Club while the other half go to support the national BGCA organization. This is an opportunity to enjoy a good meal and to support the Boys & Girls Club of Benton County.
