Monthly Insight
Professional Op-Ed
Every Relationship Moves at Its Own Pace
Every couple has to move at a pace that feels right for them, but sometimes, there comes a point when the couple wants to move deeper into the relationship and they just don't know how. We have found that one of the best ways for a couple to get to the next step is to start letting their guards down. We understand that for some people, this isn't easy.
There are two things we often recommend to couples in this position. The first is asking the partner for help. It is a very healthy thing to say to the person you are dating, "I like the way things are progressing and I am really going to try to open up to you, but I need your help." Opening-up can make a person feel vulnerable, so asking a partner to help support you during this time is crucial.
The second thing we often advise daters is to always give their relationship their best shot. Oftentimes, people are wary to move their relationship to a deeper level because they are afraid of what will happen if the relationship doesn't work out. At some point in a relationship both partners have to decide that they are going to let their guard down and give it their all. If they don't give 100%, they will never know what would have happened if they had just given the relationship a little more of themselves and effort. So don't hold back!
When a relationship looks like it may be worthwhile, let the person you are dating learn who you really are. We are always available to help members who need dating advice, encouragement, or just need a listening ear.
