As another polar vortex hits Boston with arctic temperatures and blowing snow, we all must brace ourselves for the harsh weather sweeping in. At the same time, Boston's Woods Mullen Shelter in the South End prepares for a high number of people who seek refuge during a time when it becomes increasingly critical to get people off the street and out of the cold. 

 

Woods Mullen Shelter provides vital emergency services to some our City's most vulnerable: a warm bed, a nutritious meal, a hot shower, clean dry clothes, and compassionate care, for more than 300 people seeking shelter from the elements. In weather like this, this support is life saving.

 

But no matter what the weather, a caring staff works 365 days/year to provide for these basic human needs. Case managers, mental health clinicians, and housing workers are also on hand to connect guests with health care providers, secure benefits and housing, and enroll people in educational and job training opportunities to help them make a permanent move beyond shelter.

 

Friends of Boston's Homeless is proud to support Woods Mullen Shelter and the hard-working, compassionate staff who often work round the clock in especially bad weather to help keep some of our community's most vulnerable citizens safe. Woods Mullen never turns anyone away; a policy that is especially important during these frigid winter months.

"Crazy Sock Day."

The kids at Saint Agatha School, Milton had a Crazy Sock Day on a Monday in December and by Friday they'd collected over 600 pairs of new socks to help keep people warm and dry this winter. And this month, they're running a toiletry drive! Amazing kids making a big difference!

 

Not only does Woods Mullen receive gracious donations, the shelter is also fortunate to have volunteers serve meals to guests almost every day of the year. Volunteers from Silicon Valley Bank have been sponsoring and serving meals at Woods Mullen Shelter every month for over 14 years and find the experience just as rewarding as when they first began. 

Clean, dry socks are vital to helping keep people safe and warm during 

  Serving a hot nutritious         meal at Woods Mullen or       Boston's Long Island             Shelter is a great group         opportunity and means a lot   to shelter guests. For just a few dollars a guest, your group can also choose a special meal to sponsor and help support the shelter's kitchen too (they serve 2,000 meals every day). It's a great way to give back and connect with the homeless population of Boston. More Info
