8th Grade Graduation
Dear Eighth Grade Parents,

It is hard to believe that graduation is right around the corner.  This letter will outline important details for graduation and a number of corresponding events.

Additional details will be available over the coming weeks, so please watch for special graduation newsletters.  We will be finalizing the details for the Boston Field Trip, the FHS Transition Day, and the Graduation Rehearsals in the very near future.

8th Grade Banquet

This year, the eighth grade banquet will be on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

The students and faculty will have dinner toge ther at the Franklin Country Club located at 672 East Central St, Franklin. You can find directions here

Students should plan to arrive at 5:15 as dinner will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. and students should be picked up at 9:00 p.m. It is incredibly important that all students arrive on time for this celebration. This is a wonderful night of good cheer! Each student is individually honored by a faculty member with a short, affectionate, often amusing review of the student's time at BFCCPS. Dress code for this evening is shirt and tie for the boys and dressy attire for the girls. This evening is for the students and faculty only. However, we need some parents to help decorate the hall. Anyone interested in helping to decorate the hall please contact Joanne Basile.

Grade Eight Boston Field Trip
Mme. Malouf and Ms. Herliczek are coordinating a field trip in early June for our Grade 8 students will enjoy a movie at the Museum of Science and French lunch in Boston.

More details will be available closer to the event, stay tuned!

8th Grade Outing

Chaperones are needed and if you would like to participate please contact Joe Perna at [email protected].

Franklin High Transition Day
On Friday, June 10, 2016 the class has been invited to attend a step-up day at Franklin High School to aid with the transition to high school.

Mrs. McCoy is working with the team at FHS and will have more details as to the specific timing of the event during the week of May 16th.

Graduation and Reception
I am pleased to announce that this year's graduation will again be held at the nearby New England Chapel. The additional space and air conditioning will allow for a much more comfortable atmosphere for our graduates and families. New England Chapel is located at 40 Kenwood Circle, Franklin. Directions can be found on their website, www.newenglandchapel.org

Graduation is Monday, June 13, 2016 , at 7:00 p.m. Graduates must be at New England Chapel no later than 6:45 pm.  It is very important that students arrive on time. The program consists of: student speeches, performances by the band and the chorus, and the presentation of diplomas. The ceremony will last approximately 45 minutes.
After the graduation there will be a reception at New England Chapel for all graduates and their guests. It is a tradition at our school that sixth grade students and their parents volunteer to serve refreshments.

The expectation for graduation is that all students are within the school dress code and dress up for the occasion. Boys should wear ties, a button down shirt with khaki, blue or black trousers.  Girls should wear dressy attire such as a dress, or a nice skirt. All skirts must be of an appropriate length and tops should have straps one inch or wider. In the case of a strapless dress, or dresses with straps that are less than one inch, a shrug, sweater, or shawl must be worn. Appropriate footwear is also required; heels cannot be more than 2 inches.

Volunteers Needed!

Parent volunteers are needed to organize the decorations for the event. Historically this has included hanging the student stars, inflating and installing a number of balloons for both the stage and the main aisle. If you can join the Graduation Decorating Committee please email Joanne Basile for more information.

I know that this time of year evokes a wide range of emotions for some students. They are excited about the new challenges of high school and worried about the transition.  These contradictory expressions are quite typical since this can be both an exhilarating and disconcerting time.

Please be patient with them as they transition to the brave new world of high school.  We are certain that they are all ready to take on the challenges.  We will miss them all!

Sincerely,
Heather Zolnowski
