KZG's Tom Wilson Receives "Good Guy" Award from the Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey

The Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey (WPC-NJ) hosted its Annual Passion * Power * Progress Awards ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 9th, honoring those whose leadership, civic involvement and professional efforts have helped make New Jersey a better place for women. KZG's Jeannine LaRue served as the event's Mistress of Ceremonies.

Among the WPC's honorees was KZG Partner Tom Wilson, who received the Good Guy Award from Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37). Previous award recipients have included U.S. Senators Frank Lautenberg and Bill Bradley and New Jersey Governors Brendan Byrne and Tom Kean.

"I stand before you this evening to co-sign the fact that Tom Wilson is undoubtedly a 'Good Guy'," began Weinberg. "Tom, partner and lobbyist with the well-respected Kaufman Zita Goup out of West Trenton is a perfectionist and professional in every way. My respect for him has grown throughout the years leading me to the point that I can stand here and present him the WPC Good Guy Award."

Weinberg went on to describe Tom's extensive political career, noting his service as Chairman of the New Jersey Republican State Committee; communications consultant to the '08 Chris Christie Campaign for Governor; his work for some of the state's political icons, including serving as former Chief of Staff to Assembly Speaker Garabed "Chuck" Haytaian and Communications Director to former Governor Don DiFrancesco...as well as managing the re-election campaign of New Jersey's first and only female Governor, former Governor Christine Todd Whitman.

Yet while "all of these notable achievements are indeed significant," explained Weinberg, they are "not as important as some other characteristics I have learned about Honoree Tom Wilson."

She described his personal role in engaging women in politics and attested to the women Tom credits with influencing his life the most: his mother Sheila, his wife Lysa, and his daughter Abby.

"Tom, while you and I just a few years back would have been called 'The Odd Couple'," she said, "It is without reservation that I stand here tonight and present you with this prestigious award ... because without question, Tom ... you ARE a Good Guy."

The Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey, founded in 1972, is a chapter of the National Women's Political Caucus. The bipartisan organization is dedicated to increasing the number of women in elected and appointed positions in government, protecting reproductive freedom, and promoting equal rights for women.

Client Spotlight: UPS Provides "Logistics" and Support in the Philippines

Typhoon Haiyan made landfall on six Philippine islands on November 8, devastating 11 million people - and with it, the lives they once knew.

Thousands of lives lost and injured, hundreds of thousands displaced from their homes, and hundreds more desperately sought shelter, food and medical care.

Not even a week after Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippine islands, KZG client UPS, a global leader in logistics, pledged $1 million toward the recovery efforts in the Philippines. The pledge included a combination of cash grants, in-kind transportation movements and technical expertise that would help provide urgent and much-needed relief, as well as strategic support for the long-term recovery needs in the region.

"UPS and its partners quickly moved our Global Humanitarian Relief Program to urgent response mode and together have set into motion a multi-faceted relief effort," said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation, on Nov. 13th, the day the pledge was announced. "We are immediately contributing $500,000 to provide urgent relief."

UPS's financial and in-kind contributions for urgent response, totaling $500,000, were distributed toward the World Food Programmethe United Nations Children's Fund, CARE, the Salvation Army and Medshare.

UPS's ability to leverage its expertise in logistics during disasters is an area where the company has proven it can make a big impact. Last year, UPS supported more than 200 humanitarian relief programs in 35 countries, including programs that prepare communities for a crisis, supplying them with urgent relief when a crisis occurs, and giving post-crisis recovery phase support. Through a combination of in-kind shipments, donations and the sharing of its unique technical and logistical expertise, UPS contributed in excess of $6.5 million in 2012.

On Thanksgiving Day, a UPS "Browntail" aircraft departed Louisville, KY, loaded with approximately 15,000 pounds of donated vital medical relief supplies to aid the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan. The shipment was made possible by the Catholic Diocese of New York and the Harmony for Peace Foundation in Pennsylvania.
