Save the Date: June 9

Our program for June will be a visit to Ron Nelson's studio for a demonstration of his cast paper techniques. Ron's cast paper pieces are made almost entirely of recycled materials: shredded newspaper mixed with water, house paint to bind it together, with mill ends for the framing. The casting is primed and the last layer of coloring is applied. For a preview: http://alleyartworks.com/

Reservations required. Sign up at our May 12 meeting or email Barbie Adler [email protected] to reserve a spot. Ron can accommodate 20 people.

We will meet on Thursday, June 9, at 10AM at Ron Nelson's studio.

You're invited to drop by our card-making table at the May meeting and help us make as many cards as possible. And look for the red mailbox to deposit cards you've made at home. Members' Summer Postcard Exchange

Sign up by emailing me before May 8, if you haven't turned in a sign-up slip already. At the May meeting, you'll receive the name and address of a Secret Postcard Pal (I'll send names by email to those who don't pick them up). Over the summer, you agree to send your pal three postcards (one per month or three all at once - your choice). Of course you can send as many as you want, but three is the minimum. They can be any medium, any motif, and any skill level - anything goes! In early September, send a "reveal" postcard that either gives a clue to your identity or gives it away completely. At the September meeting, bring the postcards you received for display on the postcard table and hopefully connect with your Secret Pal!

PLEASE sign up ONLY if you intend to participate, so nobody is disappointed.  Get ready to have some fun!
Sue Agnew
If not signed up, email your name, snailmail address, email address, and phone to [email protected]

Creative Circles

Creative Circles are small groups of PaperWorks members who explore art. Some circles make books, study bookbinding, share mail art, create digital art or stitch on paper or cloth. Pictures of their art projects are posted at www.paperworks.info Friendship, creativity and fun are the focus.

This has been a great year for Creative Circles! More members than ever have started new circles or have joined existing ones.

A wonderful aspect of Creative Circles is that groups form around and reflect the interests of members. For instance, if a member is interested in book making, we can create a circle. If a circle's interest changes, we can refocus, disband or create a new circle. Circles can last only a few months or in one case a group met for 15 years! This year members started three hand stitching circles and one on collage. Some circles have changed their focus. Others have added membership and some have closed. Usually, Creative Circle groups meet from Sept. through May.

A big THANK YOU to all of the CC contact persons. They opened their homes or arranged meeting places, responded to new members, arranged programs, wrote e-news notices and some made food for their group! Our contact persons are very generous with their time and talents.

Still open and able to invite you to their May meetings are:

1.  Eastside Circle: Meets the first Thurs. of each month (5/4) at 9:30AM. It is held at the Rincon Mountain Presbyterian Church, 8445 E. Tanque Verde. Contact Gerry Murano at [email protected]

2. Hand Stitching and Surface Design in Oro Valley: We work on our projects and share ideas. Join us! Meets on the third Wed. of the month (5/18) from 1:00 to 4:00PM at Carol Morgan's home: [email protected]

3. Northwest Circle: Meets the third Monday of the month (5/16) at 1:00PM. Each month there is a different demonstration or art exploration. Contact Krista Neis at [email protected]

4. A Stitch in Time: Focuses on creating art with stitching and felting. We are a loosely stitched group that welcomes anybody doing anything.  Just drop by to join in the fun! If you need ideas for a project or have one underway and want suggestions, we will provide. It does not have to be a stitchery project. Come once, come all the time, whatever works. We meet after the regular PaperWorks meeting. Contact Diana at: [email protected]

For more information about Creative Circles or if you want to join a group, please contact Carol Morgan at [email protected]
