Assalamu Alaykum:

On behalf of the Shura Council and with mixed feelings, I announce that Br. Shakeel Syed who has been Executive Director of the Shura Council since 2005, will be leaving us effective August 1, 2016, as he  has chosen to serve the larger American community in the field of social justice.

Over the last eleven years, Br. Shakeel has played an important role in the development and success of the organization. I also want to thank him for his significant contributions to the Shura in the following areas:

• Growing Shura's membership to over 70 members
• Creating stability and sustainability of the organization
• Developing programs such as, Open Mosque Day and Prison Outreach
• Producing first of its kind Masjid Operations Manual
• Partnering with sister Shura Councils around the nation
• Creating coalitions and alliances with various community based social justice organizations and government agencies

During this transition period, it is my priority to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective organization. I am pleased to share the job announcement here  and ask for your help in identifying candidates who can help the Shura Council continue its important work. 

Again, I thank Br. Shakeel for the dedication and passion he has given to the Shura Council and the community at large. He will be greatly missed by the Board, members, staff and partners alike.

 

I look forward to following the success of his future endeavors and am also hopeful and excited for the next chapter of the Shura Council.
