Summary of May meeting:
Bridlemile welcomed representatives of Portland's Environmental Services and Transportation Bureaus for an update on the Water Quality Improvement Project for Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway. The primary objectives are to capture and clean stormwater from a 2.6 mile stretch of the highway from Hillsdale to SW 65th. Pedestrian safety improvements are a possible benefit as well. There was a constructive give-and-take on the project. Earliest construction is 2015.
Current Board members and chairs were elected to continue in their positions. We still have one opening for an at-large Board member.
Proposed changes to City Zoning Code, a draft designated RICAP 6, were scheduled for a Council vote June 4. Major changes in the provisions for short-term rentals, under such companies as Airbnb and Home Away. Bridlemile voted to request that these changes be removed from the proposal, as they need more public discussion. We are concerned about impacts to neighborhoods from short-term rentals.
We also discussed fast-track demolition of homes without proper paperwork, environmental protections or notification of neighbors. There is a high volume of such demolitions throughout the city, with at least one recent example in Bridlemile. We are looking for stronger notification requirements from the city.
