This month has seen another world first for the UAE with Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) receiving a world record-low bid of 2.99 cents/kWh for the 800 MW third phase of its 5 GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum solar project, announced on May 2.
The lowest bid was submitted by a consortium led by Abdul Latif Jameel of Saudi Arabia, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) of Spain and Masdar of the United Arab Emirates.
The announcement also contributed to engaging discussions and dialogue during CEBC's regional conference on Project Financing for Clean Energy held on 3 May in Dubai which was attended by more than 150 industry stakeholders.
CEBC's Board Election took place in April with a new board elected by the membership. Further details are below and we look forward to welcoming you to a Members Only breakfast in the coming weeks to meet the incoming board, share ideas and hear your vision for CEBC and its board for the coming term.
Next on the CEBC event calendar is the third instalment in the WICE Leadership Series which will focus on Leaders in the Power & Utilities Sector taking place in Abu Dhabi on 30 May. The Egypt Chapter will also host its inaugural women's event later this month featuring guest speakers from both the government and private sector, and CEBC will be actively participating in the upcoming MENASOL conference looking forward to insightful panel discussions and side events as well as the announcement of the winners of the MENASOL Awards for 2016.

Project Financing for Deployment of Clean & Renewable Energy in MENA

UAE Can Become the Clean Energy Finance Capital of the World | Arabian Business
The UAE can become the clean energy finance capital of the world, according to Dr Nasser Saidi, former chief economist of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), and chairman of the Clean Energy Business Council (CEBC).
Saidi said that UAE's capital markets could "own the clean energy finance space" and in doing so, demonstrate global leadership in impact investments. [Read article]

Future reductions in the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) of PV plants in Middle East and North Africa will require competitive financing sources and larger capacity projects, industry leaders told PV Insider. Costs tumble as Dubai's Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park sets the mark
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest single-site project to generate electricity from solar energy in the world, with a planned capacity of 5,000 megawatts - enough to power 800,000 homes - by 2030 and a total investment of Dh50 billion, according to Saeed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
