What's new at Shelterhouse?
Celebrating our 40th year!
Did you know...

We started offering services for survivors of sexual assault in addition to domestic violence in 1985. This same year, our services were expanded to include Gladwin County.

Give Local Results

Thank you, Midland! On May 3, Giving Day 2016, we received 54 gifts totaling $6,500!  Thanks to your support, friends, we received the third highest number of gifts of all the participating nonprofits in Midland County! These gifts will go a long way in providing long-term stability through proceeds from our Midland Area Community Foundation Endowment Fund.
Mother's Day at Shelterhouse

We received several special donations this Mother's Day! The 8 children in shelter were able to choose gifts for their mothers from a election of beauty products donated by Victoria's Secret and handmade jewelry and scarves donated by a community member. Thanks to these generous gifts, the families staying in Shelter were able to enjoy a lovely Mother's Day!
Women Build

More than 20 Shelterhouse staff members participated Women Build Week with Midland County Habitat for Humanity for the third year in a row!

Women Build is a national initiative held annually in the first week of May empowering women to help with housing construction efforts, an area in which generally only 15% of volunteers are female.
Looking ahead...
Happy Memorial Day!

To those who courageously gave their lives and those who bravely fight today, we thank you!

We know that war changes people, and sometimes families feel the impact. It's ok to reach out for help.  Learn more  here  & here
GOTR 5k

Join Shelterhouse and the community in cheering on this year's Girls on the Run as they complete their celebratory 5k on May 21! These 3rd-5th grade girls have been training since January in preparation for this race, learning valuable skills along the way!  After this season,  GOTR of Midland and Gladwin is merging with GOTR of Central Michigan. This merger will allow us to offer GOTR in both the fall and the spring and offer Heart and Sole, for girls in grades 6-8.

We want you!

You can make a difference. Volunteer!

Without the support of our amazing volunteers, none of this would be possible. We are so grateful for all of you who volunteered during the holidays, but we still need help in the new year! No matter who you are or what your skills are, we can use you! There is always a need for drivers, intermittent office help, and organization, as well as many other jobs and opportunities! Find out more about how you can help at our offices in Midland and Gladwin as well as the Shelterhouse Resale Shop!

Spring is here at last! Take time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine!

Shelterhouse Resale Shop is a great place to volunteer as an individual or with a group! Volunteering can be a fun way to give back to the community with your friends, or even to teach your children a valuable lesson in giving back to their community.

Chefs for Shelterhouse

Our annual night of food, fun, and philanthropy was a roaring success!  Over 700 people attended, more than 100 items were auctioned off, and fun was had by all!  Thanks again to all of our volunteers, generous sponsors and the chefs who donated their culinary experience!

A special thank you goes out to Kaitlyn,  our talented young singer, and to  Kristen and Leslie from TV 25, our MCs!

Loons Game

Wednesday April 20, staff took both Shelterhouse residents and clients who access counseling service to Dow Diamond for a Loons game!

We watched the game from a suite with tickets generously donated by a community member!
Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Sexual Assault Awareness Month was a huge success! We raised awareness in the community, spreading the message that prevention starts with each of us! We had community members take a step towards ending sexual violence by adding their name to our big foot at the Community Center, Northwood University, and at the Gladwin SANE Event!

Little steps count, too!

Shelterhouse staff and volunteers also raised awareness by braving a blustery day to march in the Loons Opening Day Parade!
