About Kate McCarthy (Presenting for the SFMTA Van Ness Improvement Project)

Kate McCarthy is a Public Information Officer at the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) for the Van Ness Improvement Project, a major civic improvement project beginning construction in 2016 that will bring San Francisco its first Bus Rapid Transit system, a much-needed and globally proven solution to improve transit service and address traffic congestion on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco, along with major utility upgrades and maintenance work. Ms. McCarthy delivers a quadrilingual, multichannel public information program for the SFMTA that includes public outreach, education and community engagement. Her work has been recognized by the California State Assembly in December 2015 with a commendation, and in 2010 she was awarded the Alliance for Biking and Walking's Susie Stephens Joyful Enthusiasm Advocacy Award. Ms. McCarthy has been working with the public to improve transportation in San Francisco for over a decade.

"Walking SF Streets with the Night Minister"

LYLE BECKMAN: "I call it the night ministry saunter. It's kind of ambling around. And we're looking to make eye contact with everyone we meet."

"For the last 52 years, the  San Francisco Night Ministry has stayed awake all night so that nobody in need has to face the night alone. They operate a crisis phone line, and they have ordained clergy literally walking the streets of San Francisco all night long."
