Best Wishes to our Link Lady, Cindy Goldman
Cindy Goldman, our Patient & Caregiver Support Coordinator, who joined the nbmtLINK in September of 2008, has recently retired from her responsibilities at the LINK. Cindy is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Michigan, as well as a nationally certified counselor (NCC).  She is actually semi-retired, because she keeps busy with a part-time private practice that primarily entails supervising limited licensed counselors in the state of Michigan. She is also very active on the board of the Michigan Mental Health Counselors Association, managing their website and writing the newsletters. This kind lady made many contributions to the LINK and will always be a cherished employee. Cindy helped so many patients, health care professionals and staff. C indy spends time traveling with her husband Paul. She especially enjoys going to Chicago as often as possible to visit her children and her grandchild, Zachary. Have fun Cindy and visit often! We miss you already.

A lot of questions arise while planning for a bone marrow transplant.  Be The Match hopes to answer all of your questions in their free, short videos which explain what to expect before, during and  after a BMT.  While watching these videos, you'll hear from patients and caregivers who've been through the process, along with transplant experts.

GVHD NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2016, IN PITTSBURGH, PA
Please add this important Symposium to your calendar which is presented by two of our nbmtLINK Partners. This year the Meredith A. Cowden Foundation  is excited to team up with the UPMC CancerCenter, partner with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, who will serve as hosts of the 2016 symposium! This Symposium is intended for hematologists, medical oncologists, bone marrow transplant physicians, pharmacists, nurses, patients, their families, and caregivers. This unique conference will consist of two-tracks - one designed for physicians and other health care professionals and one for bone-marrow transplant survivors. Both tracks will focus on cutting edge research and new treatments. It is the only program of its kind in the United States focusing on this very specific complication.  For more information, go to www.cowdenfoundation.org

Donor Meets Recipient in Style

The nbmtLINK salutes board member John Costin as he celebrated two years of good health after his 2014 bone marrow transplant. His donor, Constantin Braun flew across the globe to join the fun at a fundraiser which took place at the St. Clair Golf Club on Saturday, May 7.

The race was on and for many here, it was to save more lives, thanks to the Costins. Nyquist was the big winner for sure, but guests at this party were all winners when they witnessed John get to know his wonderful BMT donor. This Kentucky Derby event benefitted Be the Match! Cindy, Burke of the nbmtLINK was there to help celebrate and witness this incredible moment. Shown here from left to right: Constantin Braun, Cindy Burke, Marcella Costin, John Costin.

How do You Celebrate Your Transplant Anniversary?

Transplant survivors celebrate two birthdays each year, the day they were born and the day of their transplant.

We invite all survivors to celebrate by receiving a colorful card from the nbmtLINK to commemorate the day. If you would like to receive a card, please contact Cindy Burke at 800-546-5268 or email Cindy Burke, [email protected].

Special thanks to the Meredith A. Cowden Foundation and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), two of our Link Partners and proud sponsors of this program.
