Folsom City Council Adopts $194 Million Balanced Budget
The Folsom City Council unanimously approved a $194 million balanced budget for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The spending plan preserves the unique Folsom experience, maintains the quality of core services, invests in the future, sustains a clear and strong financial plan and bolsters reserves.
The budget reflects increases in the City's major revenue sources, a steady improvement in the economy and marks the fifth consecutive year of adding to a rainy day fund, a key to the City's long-term financial sustainability.
The budget includes a capital improvement program for the upcoming fiscal year, which will fund public infrastructure in the City, including the widening of Green Valley Road between East Natoma Street and the El Dorado County line, Rainbow and Orangevale bridge rehabilitation projects, street resurfacing projects and water and sewer infrastructure upgrades.
Nearly half of the City's budget invests in public safety, including police and fire services. The budget includes the hiring of two police officers and a records clerk, allowing the Folsom Police Department to restore service at the public counter to five days a week.
Parks and Recreation projects include the construction of Econome Family Park, Johnny Cash Trail Phase II and a disc golf course at Nisenan Park. In addition, the Folsom Public Library will receive an additional $30,000 in funding for books, technology and other materials. The City of Folsom FY 2016-17 budget takes effect July 1 and is available online at www.folsom.ca.us.

Amgen Tour of California Returns May 20
Pro cyclists return to Folsom on Friday, May 20 for the 11th annual Amgen Tour of California. Folsom will host the men's sixth stage, an individual time trial, and the women's second stage, a team time trial, on Friday, May 20. The Tour of California is broadcast on NBC Sports to a worldwide audience, and Folsom's approximately 12-mile course will showcase some of the city's distinctive landmarks and natural amenities as riders start and finish in the Historic District, and travel over the Rainbow Bridge and Folsom Lake Crossing. The time trials are an especially exciting event for spectators, as the world's best pro riders race all-out against the clock for the fastest times. Hosting this event is an exciting opportunity for our community. However, it will also create traffic impacts along the race course and nearby roadways. The race course will be open during peak morning and evening commute times, but will be closed from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Stay informed at www.folsom.ca.us.
