Draymond Green to the rescue? Despite a game-leading 37 points for the Warriors, plus eight rebounds and eight assists, Green felt he hadn't done enough in turning away Portland on Sunday evening as the Trail Blazers out-paced Golden State 120-108, in a contest in which the Blazers were never seriously challenged. Never satisfied, Green promises a better effort in Game 4 on Monday evening at the Moda Center in Portland, with the Warriors leading the series, 2-1 The status of the Stephen Curry, just honored with the NBA's MVP award for the second straight year, remains a game-time decision. The Sharks lead would build, as a goal from forward Joe Pavelski pushed the advantage to 2-1, still in the first period. But Pavelski was not through and would score one more time during the evening. Forwards Patrick Marleau, Logan Couture and Melker Karlsson also contributed goals and the Sharks won going away, 5-1, over the Predators. Photo by Rich Yee.

Slick fielding Oakland A's outfielder Josh Reddick duplicates his imagine appearing on the A's outfield wall with a remarkable circus catch. Despite his acrobatics, the A's would fall to the Seattle Mariners, 4-3, on May 3 at the Coliseum. Reddick wields quite a bat as well and on Sunday, versus the Baltimore Orioles, he went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk and has recorded hits in his last eight consecutive at-bats, tying a franchise record. On a nightmarish evening that would see the visiting Colorado Rockies score a record-breaking 13 runs in the fifth inning and win going away, 17-7, Giants pitcher Matt Cain saw his record fall to 0-4 for the first time in his career and lasted only 4 innings. Above, Cain confers with pitching coach Dave Righetti and catcher Buster Posey.

The Wildflower Triathlons are known for a festival-like atmosphere, challenging courses and energetic collegiate volunteers. On May 1, the Sunday Sprint Distance race was a quarter-mile swim, a 12.4-mile bike and a three-mile run. Due to extremely low water level at Lake San Antonio (Monterey County), the swim portion was moved two miles from where it is traditionally held. Participants ran along the former lake bed to get to their bike transition area. For more information, visit www.wildflower.tricalifornia.com/.

Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum |
|
|
|
By Andy Dolich
|
With the baseball season in full swing, many in the media are beaking out on why do dumb birds like us seagulls know exactly when to show up at sporting events for free food? My editors at the Ultimate Sports Guide have ask me to put quill to paper on the
Sportsgull Phenomena.
You may remember my grandfather, Jonathan Livingston Seagull. He was a worldwide literary phenomenon in the early '70s. He and my grandmother settled down in Berkeley to join the Free Fly Movement, which was all the rage in the skies above the Cal campus. My dad was hatched in a nest built in the metal girders at Memorial Stadium. His name: Steven Seagull.
When my egg cracked open, my dad taught me to fly by following the BART tracks over to the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum before it was Network Associates, McAfee or O.co. My dad became a fanatical A's fan during the World Series run of 1972-74. He named me for his favorite player. I'm Reginald Martinez Seagull.
We would fly over to the Coliseum at the start of the seventh inning for the Early Bird specials with my wingmen from all over the East Bay. We always had great perches to see championship baseball and peck leftovers from fans who flew the coop. When Raiders football rolled around we would paint our beaks, wings and faces to look like vampire bats and drop guano bombs on fans from opposing teams. Black Hole this! We were Committed to Excrement.
I flew over my first Grateful Dead Day on the Green stadium show in 1988. I thought the fog was rolling in from the bay until I lost my balance and came close to crashing into the scoreboard. It took me a while to understand that it was a very special fog generated by 50,000 Deadheads.
As soon as we got our learner's permits we were free to fly over stadiums all over the Bay Area to sample what was happening both on the field and in the kitchens, concessions stands and bleachers. Do fans and sportswriters think we are birdbrains? We aren't that gullible. Why pay full price for tickets when we can fill our beaks and cheeks with brats, burgers, wings and brew for free.
Here is what I see while swooping around the sports nests of today.
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum
This is where my dad taught me to be a sportsgull. Now we have to deal with vast expanses of green tarps where once there were fans and a mountain of empty suites and seats in center field named after Al Davis. Both the A's and Raiders continue the search for new roosts. The Raiders of the Lost Park are now talking about a Silver and Black attack on the strip in Vegas. Too far for me to wing it. Neon is very confusing to us birds.
Candlestick Park
Gone now but for many years this mistake by the big lake was our favorite. The wind turned it into our own amusement park. The gusts were fun to ride, and the cold forced fans to leave early without birdie bags, which left more grub for us. It was almost a perfect ending on Aug. 15, 2014, with Sir Paul McCartney sending the Stick out with a mega concert. Only missing piece was having Wings as his backup band.
AT&T Park
I love the garlic fries. The problem with baseball's best park is that these fans don't leave early. Last month while flying over to the park for dinner I was listening to Jon and Dave on my new iPeck talking about us arriving early. We happened to be right on time, but the early ESPN start confused them. They were debating what we should be called as a group. Jon asked Dave, "Are they a flock, gaggle, gang, bunch or flight?" Dave was stumped.
We are officially a colony.
Cal: Memorial Stadium
My home field, my birthplace. I lost a ton of sleep when they were retrofitting the stadium. At least those wacky humans who were nesting in our trees are gone. I sleep like a baby knowing that the seismic work will protect whatever eggs we decide to hatch. The new VIP seats give us a beautiful bird's-eye view of San Francisco.
Levi's Stadium
Man, my wings are tired. It takes a bunch of flapping from the East Bay to get to Santa Clara. The 49ers House of Denim is sweet, especially for the gourmet gulls in our group. We are the only members of the 49ers Faithful Flock who didn't have to purchase PSLs (Personal Seed Licenses). Super Bowl 50 was fantastic, with more parties and leftover food than any other sporting event in history. Many of my pals have had to stick to an all-seed diet to shed the extra pounds they put on.
Stanford Stadium
Did you ever notice that you don't see many of us at football games down on the Farm?
Seems like we don't fit in. There are a bunch of millennial hawks and VC raptors that have taken up space above Palo Alto. Guess there is no room for us birdbrains on the Peninsula.
Avaya Stadium
The Earthquakes have built a wonderful home for kicking back and watching some great MLS soccer. The All-Star game will be coming to Avaya on July 28 when the Arsenal Gunners come to town to test the best of the MLS. I won't be making trips down very often, since the flight patterns at Mineta International Airport scare me. Nothing worse than a bird strike or getting sucked into a Pratt and Whitney.
Next time you see me and my gulls, wave your arms and say hello but don't look
straight up.
