Sage In-District Services
Every year child study teams and districts identify students whose needs are beyond what the structure of the traditional school and child study team can meet. Child study team professionals understand what these discouraged students need but also recognize that they lack the time and resources necessary for the most effective intervention. Sage In-District Services is designed to fill the gap in service between traditional in-school support and an out-of-district placement. Our skilled clinical team will work with the child study team, academic staff and administration to provide a seamless counseling experience for the student. With the right therapeutic relationship and counseling, students will gain the support, strategy and insight they need in order to make progress in school. Sage In- District Services brings both the educational and counseling expertise that are the essential components of successful school-based intervention. Our students have made a successful adjustment to the 2014-15 school year at Sage Day Boonton. Indications of individual student progress will be reflected on Progress Reports which will be available in PowerSchool beginning October 10th. Please refer to our revised calendar as changes have been made regarding progress reporting dates. In addition, we have moved the Annual Arts Festival from March 26th to June 11th and added an 8th grade graduation ceremony to be held on June 23rd.

Thanks to all the parents who came out to meet the staff and follow student schedules on Parent Night held on September 18th. We hope to welcome everyone again on November 13th for Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Elective course offerings were presented to the sophomores, juniors, and seniors for input regarding preferences. The winners were: Martial Arts, Music Workshop, Art Workshop, and Technology for the first marking period. These options may change quarterly based on student interest. Mr. Montesano, college and career coordinator, has scheduled meetings with all of our seniors to discuss college plans and to ensure that post-secondary plans are completed and on track. In addition, Mr. Montesano has been able to get some of our seniors participating in community internship programs.

Sage Day Boonton celebrated the end of September by organizing a hike and picnic on September 26th at the Tourne Park in Boonton. The students had an opportunity to select a trail suited to their fitness level and enjoyed the beautiful fall weather and foliage. This trip also served to get our students in shape for the October senior kickball game. In recognition of the statewide Week of Respect (October 6-10), students will attend a presentation by Josh Gunderson on Cyberbullying on October 9th at Sage Day Rochelle Park in the morning and participate in a friendly game of kickball between the seniors from each school in the afternoon.

The Student Council and the Gay Straight Alliance Club are meeting weekly and officers have been elected. The Board Game Club is attempting to make a debut at Sage Day Boonton and will also meet weekly if students are interested in participating. As our campus continues to grow with the addition of an 8th grade as well as new students across all grades, our upperclassman have been brainstorming to find ways to make our new students welcome. Suggestions include an ice cream social, picnic, competitive games, and a buddy system.

The school year is barely a month old, but students at Sage Day Lower &  Middle School have already took part in a full slate of fun and educational activities and learning experiences. After successfully kicking off the school year, students celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner by participating in a distance learning event that was live-streamed from Ft. McHenry National Park in Maryland.  Students got to learn more about the history of our National Anthem while watching students from around the country put together the largest living flag.

Also in September, students went on their first field trip to Camp Vacamas in West Milford, NJ.  At Vacamas, students participated in large group team-building activities and small group challenge activities, in addition to enjoying a hike in the woods. Parents were also welcomed into the building in September, as Parent Night was held where they could meet all teachers and therapists and learn more about the Sage Day Lower & Middle School program. Lastly, with September turning into October, student council campaigns and elections were held as students made signs and gave speeches in hope of gaining a position on the council.

October looks to be just as exciting as September as we start things off with our Week of Respect. During the Week of Respect, 7th and 8th grade students will be visiting Sage Day at Rochelle Park High School in order to enjoy an informative assembly on bullying. Also in October, students will go on their annual field trip to Stony Hill Farm in Chester, NJ, where they will enjoy a hay ride, pick pumpkins, and find their way out of a large corn maze. October caps off with our annual Halloween Party which is always a big hit for both students and staff members.

Today, we will be having our annual soccer game. This year, we will combine our senior advisory homerooms with our freshmen advisory homerooms, while the juniors will be combined with the sophomore advisory homerooms. These four teams will meet outside on the field to compete for the coveted advisory Green Bear trophies. The team who shows the most team spirit will be treated to donuts the next morning during their advisory group.
