The last month of classes is a busy time at USMEX! We started the month with LASO Fest, a signature student event at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) that is supported by the center, which promoted Latin American culture among more than 100 attendees .

Next week, on May 17 we look forward to welcoming Edna Jaime, director of México Evalúa, as a Pacific Leadership Fellow at GPS's Center on Global Transformation for a talk on improving security policies through local and evidence-based diagnostics. And, on May 18 we will join GPS in hosting a talk on the Latino vote in California.

We are also very excited to unveil the preliminary results of our research on "The Students We Share: A Cross-Border Workforce Development Priority" on May 19 in Tijuana with our partners at UABC and COLEF. Our research findings are from a survey of a representative sample of 5,500 ninth and 10th graders at 60 schools in San Diego and Tijuana. It will offer insight into the educational trajectories and professional aspirations of youth in the binational region, informing solutions for policymakers in California and Baja California to respond to the specific needs of the shared student population.

At the end of the month, we will attend the 50th annual meeting of the Latin American Studies Association, the largest professional association for individuals and institutions engaged in the study of Latin America. During the event, we will present the history of the USMEX's 35th anniversary and the list of our more than 650 former fellows.
