Last Minute Lawmaking
Here is an update on the push to end last minute lawmaking. Senate resolutions SC 10 and SC 11 require conference committee reports for major appropriation bills one week prior to adjournment. Watch the press conference calling for an end to the current practice of waiting until the last minute to release major bills forged between the Senate and House Conference Committees. Rank and file legislators are left out of the process and more importantly, so is the public.
The resolutions were sent to the committee on Rules and Administration. I have asked for a hearing but as of yet have not receieved one. These resolutions are critical for transparency and an orderly end of session by ensuring bills are heard in a timely manner and with the public's input.
