Friends,

Welcome back, Denison Students!  Our prayers are with you for a great school year, rich in broadening experiences!

For those who've been away, some local news is that, last week, the Licking County Transit board voted to discontinue Sunday and evening transportation services, beginning September 1st.  This was a great disappointment, as the decision disproportionately impacts the lives of students taking evening classes, low-wage workers and people with disabilities.  But one positive result has been that, through the consistent efforts of so many people, we've seen renewed discussion about the fundamentals of our transit system.  Thanks to all of you activists, advocates, and organizers who continue to work towards increased mobility for folks in Licking County!

This Labor Day weekend, we join with progressive congregations around the country to celebrate "The Sacredness of Labor Sunday"--a time to lift up and honor the sacred link between work and faith, and an annual initiative of Interfaith Worker Justice.  Special guest, Cathi Steele of the Mid-Ohio Workers Association (MOWA) will share a brief testimony during the service and, after worship, will take part in a conversation in the Chapel about the her work with that local Association.

Shalom,

Dwight
