We love the beach. Really. When many think of Vallarta, the sunsets, beaches, sun and surf may be the first things that come to mind. However, once you decide to settle into a home, there are ample opportunities to extend your boundaries and venture into more residential neighborhoods in Vallarta.

Hola El Caloso! This colonia, situated northeast of the Col. Emiliano Zapata deserves a close look for the savvy investor. Walking east on Lazaro Cardenas past the Emiliano Zapata Market, crossing the bridge on the River Cuale, you enter this traditional Mexican neighborhood

Carnivals and Festivals

As our friend David Binder writes:

We could not agree more, and obviously, so does Vallarta.

Festivals and carnivals are plentiful in all of Mexico as one of the activities that churches, colonias, business associations, and social groups share as a way to showcase the beauty of the destination and the diverse cultures among which we live.

Fiestas de la Parroquia de la Santa Cruz

through May 3rd

The yearly parish festival at La Parroquia de la Santa Cruz (The Parish of the Holy Cross) located on the corner of Aguacate and Lazaro Cardenas in the Col. Emiliano Zapata commands a week where streets are closed and carnival rides, trampolines, and vendor booths share the street with food vendors and a main stage showcasing an impressive array of Mexican music and dance.

While some cities in Mexico no longer allow the cannon fire during festivals, you can still hear the simulated loud booms from La Santa Cruz in Vallarta. Legends claim that the booms represent humanity's daily battle with the devil. Another version submits it was a way for neighboring parishes to communicate with one another that the festivals were starting. That was before the internet.

12th Annual Altruism Festival

The U.S. Consulate in Puerto Vallarta sponsors a yearly festival designed to raise funds for local non-for-profit and charitable organizations in the Bay of Banderas. The 12th Annual Altruism Festival on Sunday, May 8 this year continues as the biggest and best of our out-door festivals.

The Marriott Casa Magna in the Marina hosts this celebration of food, music and giving back to our community from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Vendor booths and the main entertainment stage spread out on the massive garden lawn with the Bay of Banderas as the backdrop. Tickets are $400 pesos in advance and $500 pesos at the door. One of our favorite festivals brings the sophisticated Vallarta culinary scene to the forefront. Rated as second only to Mexico City in the country as a foodie's delight, some of Vallarta's favorite restaurants offer a 3-course fixed menu representative of their signature dishes and cuisine.

Vallarta Pride 2016

The Asociacion de Comercio y Turisimo for the LGBT community (ACT-LGBT, AC) proudly presents the 4th Annual Vallarta Pride festival. In addition to the Parade and Party in the Park highlights, you will enjoy art exhibits, film screenings, health fairs, circuit parties, and more in different venues throughout the city.

Besides being one of the most popular personalities on LGBT YouTube, Idan Matalon is a journalist, audio and video producer, model and business executive. Currently a columnist for the Israeli website Mako and vice president of marketing for Moovz (LGBT social network globally), in 2012, the publication Shalom Life named him 20th on its list of the 50 hottest Jewish men.

Myriam Montemayor, actress, singer and Mexican performer, rose to fame in 2002 by becoming the first winner of "The Academy", the reality show produced by Mexican network TV Azteca.

Along the coast of Cabo Corrientes, you'll find paradisiacal beaches of fine, white sand, abundant vegetation and spectacular cliffs. Some of these beaches have barely been explored, making them ideal for those seeking to go deeper into the wilds of the Mexican coast.

With 9km (5.5 miles) of some of the last remaining pristine virgin beaches only a 2-hour drive south from Vallarta, Mayto reigns as the crown jewel of this area and personifies the absolute beauty of Mexico's Pacific coast beaches.

Cabo Corrientes, a cape along the coast, marks the southernmost point of the Bay of Banderas.

Cabo Corrientes is a prominent navigational landmark, featured on the earliest cartography of the region. Cruising sailors often refer to it as Mexico's Point Conception.

With two hotels located side-by-side you can choose from the Hotel Mayto, a 12-room modern hotel with restaurant and pool but no internet unless you sit in the hotel lobby....if you REALLY need to.

If you prefer more rustic surroundings, the Hotel Riconcito offers a bohemian laid-back vibe and still NO internet.

The Marine Turtle Research Station is located beside Hotel Mayto and protects the eggs after they have been laid by returning turtles until they are ready to return to the sea about 40 days later.
