Beware: No Summer Break for IRS Phone Scams
Beware!

IRS phone scammers aren't taking any time off this summer from fraudulent activities. We urge our clients and friends to please be on alert for the latest in a wave of phone scams from individuals claiming to be calling from the IRS. The following is one example of a phone message left by an IRS impersonator:

"I'm Heather Grey from Internal Revenue Service and the hotline to my division is 202-506-9689. I repeat, it's 202-506-9689. Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any legal allegation against you. Goodbye and take care."

If you receive a call that you believe may be part of this widespread scam, do not give out any personal or financial information. Hang up on the caller or do not return the call. You can report the scam attempt to the IRS by calling 800-829-1040.

Please also be alert for email and social media scams. Remember, the IRS never requests personal or financial information by email, text, or any social media channel. If you receive a suspicious email, do not open any attachment or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the email to the IRS at [email protected].

For additional tips on how to protect your personal information, or for other tax-related questions, please contact us.

We go beyond the numbers by delivering insight, guidance and success to our clients.
