Your Opinions Matter

During the next month or two we need to have an important conversation about how we do worship and education at Joy.  At our last congregational meeting we set the goals and among them are 1) provide for more opportunities for Christian Education for all ages and 2) Deepen our sense of connection to God and to one another through more inspiring worship.

Both are great goals, the question is how do we structure our ministry to reach them? That is where you come in.  Start thinking and praying about it now.  In the coming weeks there will opportunities for conversations and surveys, where you can share your ideas with the faith education team, who will bring forward recommendations to the vision council for the fall programing.

As I mentioned last week, we have found a new Administrative Assistant and h er name is Shannon Clarke and she will be starting on May 2.  So stop by to introduce yourself when you get a chance.  A huge thank you to Hope Olson for volunteering in the office during the vacancy.

JWELCA Spring Banquet
On Sunday, April 29th, 55 women and children, including several intergenerational families, enjoyed a time of fellowship, a delicious meal prepared by Doug Keyport (with help from Robyn Keyport) and served by the men of the church, great music provided by Scott Halverson and Tom Peterson, and enjoyable activities and inspiration provided by Emilie Horken. Special thanks to Sue Hood for table decorations around the theme of "Garden Party: Seeds of Kindness." Thanks to the following people who helped with set-up and clean-up: Dick and Emilie Horken, Ken and Deanna Roen, Hope Olson, Sue Hood, Char Burgeson, and Marv and Marcia Lindseth. Thank you also to all the men who helped serve the meal: Ken Roen, Dick Horken, Jim Flatz, Lee Northouse, Russ Jensen, Ken Wilson, Doug Kokesh, Ernie Schultz, and Pastor Steve Meyer. Take time to check out the JWELCA bulletin boards in the narthex hallway for items relating to this annual JWELCA spring event!

Congratulations Annika

Congratulations for being one of the top ten Prescott High School graduates.

We would like to recognize and celebrate graduation with all our graduates at the 10:00 worship service on May 22. We would love it if you could send a photo and brief description of your fall plans to the office as soon as possible.
Wednesdays Shift into Summer mode

A huge thank you to Kelly Poff for another wonderful year of Wednesday night meals.  The meals have been a great way to build community...they will start up again in the fall.

Last Wednesday was also the last week for our Shift 6/7 kids and for Confirmation.  Many thanks to the leaders who have made it possible.

Wednesday Worship continues at 6:30pm every Wednesday.  As soon as the weather cooperates we will be moving outdoors.  If you are traveling on weekends, this half hour informal worship is a great way to keep connected.

Thank you to the guitar camp musicians and the Sunday School Youth for leading us in singing at worship on April 17th!!!
Joy Choir

Wednesday was the last rehearsal for the year for the Joy Choir. They will be sharing two songs at the 8:15 worship on Sunday.  Thanks also to our Joy Choir, Director Deanna Roen, and pianist Joan Schaack who have enriched our Sunday services for the past nine months. They will be taking a summer break and will join our services again in the fall.
Thank yous
Thank you to Al Klein and Ernie Schultz for keeping the grass mowed and everything looking great.

Thank You to Larry Schaack and Dick Horken for taking the slide off the playground equipment as it needs to be repaired or replaced.

Thanks to our cleaning crews who faithfully clean our church every week.

Women's Bible Study    May 10th
-
All women are invited to the May Bible Study. The topic for this study is "Mary and Elizabeth: Sisters Across the Generations." Theme verses are Luke 1:26-56. This is an intergenerational Bible Study which will help us understand one another across the generations as supportive sisters, to empathize with Elizabeth and Mary's grace and disgrace, fear, surprise and joy, and to hear and heed God's calling to bear Christ to the world. Please come to either of our studies on May 10th in the Fireside Room at church: 1:30 P.M. (Wilma Timm, Leader) or 7:00 P.M. (Diane Meyer, Leader).
Change in Men's Bible Study dates
Normally the men meet every other Saturday morning for breakfast and looking at the texts for the coming Sunday.  All are welcome, check with the church office as the location sometimes changes depending on who is cooking. To avoid conflicting with the plant market and memorial day weekend we are moving the next study up to May 7 at Joy.  Hope to see you then.

Card Ministry

Thank you to the following women who have been making cards that are given to people in our congregation who are ill, grieving, or celebrating special events: Emilie Horken, Jean Setering, Deanna Roen, Susan Metcalf, Shirley Johnson, Julie Fiedler, Char Burgeson, Sue Hood, Sharyn Calton, Judy Hamann, Diane Meyer, Joan Northouse, and Lynda Johnson. The cards are also available for sale in the narthex for $2.00 - a GREAT bargain for a beautiful card! The cards were also sold at the Synod Women's Convention in Eau Claire on April 29-30 with many convention attendees commenting on how beautiful the cards are.
