Pastor Berg's Message
Without Love We Have Nothing
The current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church gave a speech the other day talking about a very Lutheran topic, OK, a very Christian topic: Knowledge is empty without love. On Sunday May 1 we read from 1 Corinthians 13, "If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing."

The new church van has been purchased. The final cost was $65,000, which was covered by money in the Van Reserve Fund, a $20,000 loan from the Capital Improvement Fund, and money raised for the Youth Fund A Cause during the auction, and after. We should have it here before the summer events start!

First Lutheran Church Library - April
At our "original library" preview April 10th, an interesting book titled "How to be an Effective Church Woman" by Carolyn Blackwood was displayed. Inside the cover is an inscription: This book belongs to the Women's Missionary Society of Bothell First Lutheran Church, purchased Feb.1960.
Here is one of many interesting quotes. In a questionnaire to a minister, it was asked, "How do you find new workers among women?" The pastor replied, "They come to the top like cream". Check out the full article.

Always Being Made New: The Campaign for the ELCA
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's (ELCA) first comprehensive campaign, Always Being Made New: The Campaign for the ELCA, is celebrating the completion of its second year with $80 million in cash gifts and gift commitments, representing 40 percent of the five-year, $198 million goal by Jan. 31, 2019."At a time when people are concerned about contracting resources, we see the generosity of our members expanding," said the Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, ELCA presiding bishop. "At a time when some wonder if the church has the capacity to be engaged in the world, we are actually extending our work. Truly, together we can do more."
Launched Feb. 1, 2014, the campaign seeks to help sustain and expand the ministries of this church through four priorities - Congregations, Hunger and Poverty, Leadership and Global Church. The additional resources will help our church grow our communities of faith, form new leaders, welcome our neighbors, overcome malaria, confront hunger and poverty, accompany our global churches and so much more.
The director for the campaign says, "In the midst of this campaign, we are giving thanks to God for all the connecting lines that make this church and this effort so amazing. No matter what your passion is, whether it's leadership, congregations, responding to hunger and poverty or our global church, we are learning that we can do more together."
In its third year, the campaign is focused on the Hunger and Poverty priority with ELCA World Hunger, which works to end hunger and poverty in the United States and companion churches and partners in nearly 60 countries. Kicking off the campaign's year-of-emphasis was ELCA World Hunger's 40 Days of Giving, a special Lenten initiative to heighten awareness of and support for this ministry and its work throughout the world.
