Community Vision
|
The Chico Chamber of Commerce released a 10-year Community Vision to the Chico City Council. This vision outlines our standards and expectations for...
1. A safe community
2. Healthy city government
3. Thriving anchor businesses
4. Vibrant shared spaces
5. Premier facilities and community amenities.
The vision outlines common goals that will move Chico forward. Chamber partnership and membership now mean standing together to achieve a common vision for Chico that meets all of our expectations. We are certain that the Chamber, along with our members and partners, will make a difference in this community for the better, and it all starts with our Community Vision.

If you ask me, every week is Small Business Week. Here at the Chico Chamber, we celebrate the backbone of our economy every single day through representing our members. I recently had an opportunity to tell a new investor in Chico that everything we do is wrapped around business - keeping it, growing it, and making sure our leaders know that everything we see is a result of a successful business. If you are running a small business in Chico, or a business of any size, we tip our hats to you.
Speaking of small businesses, the Chamber, a small non-profit organization, is slowly growing again! We are pleased to introduce Kelsey Torres, our new Associate Vice President. Kelsey, a Chico native, brings years of non-profit experience to her role and will help us continue to move our Community Vision forward. If you see her out and about, please take a moment to shake her hand.
Connect For A Cause
May is a busy month for us and I encourage you to connect for a cause at our quarterly Community Development Update at noon on May 19th. These meetings provide a unique opportunity for businesses to Q&A with City Officials on topics such as the upcoming General Plan review, new development on the horizon, and what's on the City's code enforcement agenda. Spend your lunch hour at this free learning opportunity and walk away a bit more informed about our business climate and economic landscape.
Two other events this month are aimed at strengthening your business through collaboration. Chico State is hosting their first campus and community
Meet-and-Match on May 2nd from 11am - 1pm. This event is aimed at connecting local business projects with campus groups. And, NorTEC is hosting a business input session targeted at "Developing our Community's Workforce," on May 9th from noon - 1:30pm at Manzanita Place. Both events are free and filled with value.
Public Safety
If you're a downtown business or are interested in downtown safety, Team Chico and the Chico Police Department are hosting our next Community Safety Meeting on May 5th, from 9am - 10am, in the Old Municipal Building (441 Main Street). There is no cost to attend and no RSVPs are required. (More information below.)
Through my advocacy work at the Chamber, I have been part of a group working to bring surveillance cameras to a notoriously dangerous section of bike path that runs adjacent to the Chico State campus. Recent bike fatalities have been linked to the dangers of this path and the City, University, and other organizations active in the Beautiful, Clean, and Safe movement, are taking measures to address this glaring public safety issue. The Chico City Council approved the installation of the cameras and now a fundraising effort is in place to purchase the cameras and cover installation costs. If you feel compelled, please donate to the public-private
Bike Path Safety Camera Project which, we hope, will be the first of many aimed at making our community safer for everyone - something our members have told us is critical to their life and work in Chico.
Happy Small Business Week, friends!

Partnership Perspective
|
|
My first week with the Chamber has been very exciting! I have had a chance to meet and talk with some pretty incredible Chico businesses and residents. In the weeks and months ahead, I look forward to growing our Community Impact Partnership program and maintaining our existing relationships so that we can be even more successful in implementing our Community Vision.
I have been in the non-profit industry for the last 10 years, 6 of those in Chico. As a Chico native, being a champion for businesses and our community comes naturally to me. We should all be proud of the active role we take in
making a difference in our community through the Chamber. I encourage you to stop by and see me at the office or drop me a note and I'll swing by your business for a visit.
As you know,
Chico is a unique community where businesses have a voice and the ability to influence the quality of life in our town and to keep it moving forward. Let's make this opportunity work for you today.
It is definitely a great time to work and live in Chico!
Kelsey Torres, Associate Vice President

Chamber Ambassadors |
|
The Ambassador members have been busy supporting the Chico Chamber! Our boots on the ground team has been going to Ribbon Cuttings, Chamber Business Connections, Legislative Action Committee meetings and more to continue to stay involved and support the voice of business. With the recent change in minimum wage we asked some of our members: "Will minimum wage changes affect your business? If so, how?" It was interesting to hear the responses from small local businesses as well as larger businesses.
T
he Ambassadors continue to be the boots on the ground for the Chamber - if you'd like to get involved and support the voice of business and overall community - we'd love to have you get involved! Last month our Ambassadors proudly competed to support as many chamber businesses as they could. Congrats to Larry Ducommun,
Picture Plus Promotional Products
for visiting, supporting and doing business with so many Chico Chamber businesses. Great job! Here are some of our Ambassadors at the "Moving Chico Forward" membership Orientation in April.

COMMUNITY IMPACT PARTNERSHIP
Businesses making an investment in our community
|
|
In addition to traditional membership, we now have four tiers of investment which allow businesses to support their own mission through the Chamber's advocacy work, economic development partnership, and targeted activities that benefit Chico's economic health and high quality of life.
Businesses choosing partnership will stand with us as we do some of the most important and influential work being done in our community right now, and will make a lasting difference.
Every successful community is built on a foundation of successful businesses creating jobs and economic possibilities. And, every successful business is built on strong and enduring relationships. Through your membership or partnership, let's keep Chico businesses and our local community flourishing.
