Preview Information
When you arrive in August, you will have the opportunity to attend International Orientation on August 17 and Preview on August 18.  International Orientation is a program specifically designed for international students.  The program will cover cultural adjustment and U.S. policies from plagiarism to maintaining your status.  Preview is designed for all incoming students and includes advising and course registration for your fall semester.
  • If you are an Exchange student, an email will be sent from admission with directions on how to register for your courses.
When you register for Preview, you'll also be completing some academic information, so be sure that you have at least five minutes to devote to this process. Also, you'll need your Mount Union username and password to complete this form, as you'll be prompted to provide that information. Be sure to type campus\ prior to your username when you log onto the site.

If you have trouble with the registration form or questions about Preview, please feel free to contact Melissa Turk, director of first year initiatives, at (330) 823-4489 or [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you at Preview!
Online Pre-Arrival Modules
To help you succeed at the University of Mount Union and American culture, we have created a Pre-Arrival International Student Orientation just for you! This online orientation is a series of modules about immigration basics, arriving on campus, choosing housing options, important dates, cell phone and banking options, American slang, how to get involved on campus, the American Classroom, and much more.

For this month, you will want to take a look at Module 2: Pre-Arrival Important Dates and Information. Browse this module to find information about student health insurance and why it is important, how to submit your health record forms, on-campus living options (with photos), where to mail packages prior to your arrival, and a packing list!
  • In order to submit your Health Center forms, you will need to download the forms provided and re-upload to the dropbox "Completed Health Center Forms" upon completion and signature of these pages.
Additionally, read Module 3: Legal Basics to learn more about how to stay "in status" as an international student studying in the United States. You will also find a short quiz to help test your knowledge about immigration information that applies to all international students in the U.S.

Please pay extra close attention to Module 3 as it will describe the types of documentation and paperwork that you will need during your stay in the United States!!

Housing
Your housing assignment cannot be completed until we receive the New Student Housing Application. All degree-seeking students are required to live on campus for two years, unless you will be at least 23 years old.  You will have a roommate and will typically live in a traditional style hall.  Exchange students can elect to live on or off campus and may request to live in a single or upperclass housing.  Therefore, it is important that you return this form. This information is used in making room assignments, so it is important for you to be as complete and accurate as possible about your living habits and personal interests. The residence hall preferences you list are only preferences. Although we try to assign you to your first or second choice, we cannot guarantee this. If you request, by name, a specific person to room with you, that person must also request you as his/her roommate before the two of you will be assigned together as roommates. You will be notified of your room and roommate assignment by the first week of August.

If you have any questions you can call us at (330) 823-7288 or email [email protected].
Meal Plans
Transfer students living in a residence hall or a campus house are required to select one of the six meal plan options for the fall 2016 semester. Commuter and off-campus students have the opportunity to select any of the meal plans options but are not required to do so. If a meal plan is not selected for the fall semester for any student living in a residence hall or campus house, the student's meal plan will default to the unlimited plan. The last date to make changes for the fall semester is August 26, 2016. If you wish to change your meal plan before August 26, 2016, please contact the Campus Card Office at (330) 823-2881 or visit the card office in the Hoover Price Campus Center.
Billing
If you haven't already, you will be receiving quite a bit of information from the Office of Business Affairs. This packet will include:
  • Payment options brochure that will help you calculate your out-of-pocket tuition expenses for your first year.

  • FERPA release that will allow the Office of Business Affairs to speak to only those persons you authorize (typically parents or guardians) about your tuition and payment arrangements. This is NOT an academic FERPA. This release will only authorize release of financial information.
  • Tuition Payment Agreement, which is an agreement between the student and University regarding payment of tuition, room and board, costs, fees and expenses (if applicable). All students upon enrollment are subject to this agreement.
All three forms need to be signed and returned to the Office of Business Affairs by July 31. Please contact the Office with any questions at (330) 823-6557 or (330) 829-4137.
Making Travel Arrangements
We know it can be expensive to make international travel arrangements, so we have some tips just for you.
  • We suggest flying into Akron-Canton Airport. Mount provides transportation to and from the Akron-Canton airport, which will save on travel costs once you land.
  • If you plan to purchase a roundtrip ticket, it is encouraged to schedule your flight home after all final exams are over. The last day of finals for Fall 2016 is Friday, December 16. You can find the academic calendar online here.
  • You can find more travel information on the Pre-Arrival Module.
