Young Leaders Conference
Eagleton's Youth Political Participation Program (YPPP) hosted its 9th annual Young Leaders Conference this month for students from New Brunswick High School. The theme of this year's conference was "politics matters to you and you matter to politics." In sessions led by RU Ready™ Rutgers students, participants explored the role politics plays in their lives and practiced the skills needed to make a difference in their community.

Koning Wins AASRO and AAPOR Awards
Ashley Koning, assistant director of Eagleton's Center for Public Interest Polling (ECPIP) was recently awarded the John Tarnai Memorial Scholarship by the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations (AASRO) and the American Association for Public Opinion Research's (AAPOR) 2016 Burns "Bud" Roper Fellow Award.

The Tarnai award provides a scholarship in memory of John Tarnai, former AASRO president, and recognizes an outstanding early career survey research professional with great promise for pursuing a long-term career in survey research. The scholarship defrays the cost of attending the annual meetings of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) or the International Field Directors and Technology Conference (IFD&TC).

The Burns "Bud" Roper Fellow Award is named for the late Burns "Bud" Roper, who provided a substantial bequest in his will to endow the Roper Award fund. Roper Fellows are individuals whose primary work responsibilities are related to survey research or public opinion and who have recently started their careers. They receive financial assistance to help them attend the annual conference and/or participate in conference short courses; most are first-time conference attendees.

In addition to her position as ECPIP assistant director, Koning is a Ph.D. candidate in political science at Rutgers, and holds a masters in political science from Columbia University.
