Bryan Frye...
I'm always surprised when I hear people say "there's nothing to do in Wichita".  Just take a quick look around town and you'll find plenty of activities and programs offered by private institutions and public facilities. And now that spring is here there are more choices than ever. For instance, look no farther than how the City of Wichita is serving you every day in so many ways.

In addition to our golf courses, swimming pools, recreation centers and parks, the Park & Recreation department also offers camps and classes throughout the summer.  If you need suggestions, the Wichita Park & Recreation Summer Activities Guide will be available online Monday, May 9th and hard copies of the guide will be available at all recreation centers and Dillon's stores  beginning Monday May 16th.

Not to be left out are the great museums and cultural event opportunities offered at Botanica, CityArts, Cowtown, Kansas Aviation Museum, Mid American All Indian Center, Wichita Art Museum and the Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum. All of these institutions provide programming and events for all ages throughout the spring and summer.

And let's not forget about the activities offered by the Wichita Public Library. From reading programs to special events they provide a full calendar of opportunities to stay busy and engaged.

So the next time you hear "there's nothing to do in Wichita", visit www.wichita.gov  and check out the multiple ways we're helping change that perception. Also check out the rest of this newsletter for upcoming special events and programs happening soon.

Have a great weekend!

Making a Difference

District V Advisory Board (DAB V) Youth Member, Mayor's Youth Council (MYC) Member and Goddard Eisenhower Student Body President, Claire Hersh, was instrumental in the organizing a day of service last Saturday in Goddard called Neighbors United. Over 550 volunteers, 40 service sites and $20,000 in donations, cleaned up the Goddard community.

So proud to have her on our DAB V and MYC Boards the past two years! This fall she will be attending WSU to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering with a minor in Spanish and political science.

Free Medicine

Many Americans are not aware that there is free medicine available which can decrease the risk of dying by 19-30%.

This medicine helps prevent Alzheimer's dementia, lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of osteoporosis, and decreases colon and breast cancer risk. This medicine can be obtained through a doctor's prescription, but is also available "over the counter."  What is this wonderful medicine?

WALKING!

If a drug company could sell it, they'd probably name it "Walkitor" and charge an arm and a leg!  However it is FREE.  Just 30 minutes of exercise daily can bring you these benefits.  Even 15 minutes daily is beneficial to you. Walking is an easy way to get exercise in your routine.

Give it a try!  You won't find a cheaper medicine on the market!
