On Saturday, May 21st at 8pm, Composers Concordance, in conjunction with Goddard Riverside Community Arts, presents its 6th annual 'Generations' concert, featuring the music of acclaimed composers Kinan Azmeh, Charles Coleman, Dan Cooper, Patrick Grant, Daniel Palkowski, Milica Paranosic, Gene Pritsker, Daniel Schnyder, Aleksandra Vrebalov, Dorian Wallace, and Randy Woolf, as well as two competition winners. The winner in category A: age 25 or younger, is composer Nathan Bales of Atlanta, Georgia. The winner in category B: age 65 or older, is composer Frederick Karl Boyle of Green Village, New Jersey. Featuring the CompCord Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Carlo Bo, Charles Coleman, and Arkady Leytush, with soloists Igor Begelman - clarinet, Lynn Bechtold - violin, and Daniel Schnyder - soprano saxophone. In the case of a new music presenting organization, it requires not only diligence and cognizance of achievements of the past, but also an ethic of keeping one's ear to the ground for emerging stylistic and technological developments, as well as talented new composers on the scene. Composers Concordance strives to present contemporary music in innovative ways, with an emphasis on thematic programming. It has also created a new record label, Composers Concordance Records, with distribution by Naxos. Directors Gene Pritsker and Dan Cooper co-curate the programs, and lead the CompCord Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, String Orchestra, and Big Band. Associate Directors for the 2015-16 season are Milica Paranosic, Peter Jarvis, Svjetlana Bukvich, and Melissa Grey. Composers Concordance's overriding vision is to promote contemporary music, composers, and new works as a rightful and respected part of society. Good music, performed and recorded well, pushing the boundaries of sound and composition.
Goddard Riverside's Community Arts program, directed by Susan Macaluso, hosts a variety of low-cost or free music and art events, workshops, and special programs for members of the Upper West Side community. Its goal is to enrich the neighborhood, to engage in meaningful discussions, and to give everyone an opportunity to experience the beauty and education of art in many forms.
