Gigi

Gigi-  coated cotton for rain resistance
We loved the idea of this fabrication. The design is cute-chic, the fabrication is novel. Broad brushstrokes of black overlap in circular motion over a milk white ground. The base cloth is cotton satin, but the black is finished with polyurethane. You can feel the coating with your hand as you travel across the fabric. We tested it for water resistance by dropping water on both the black and the white. It beaded on the black and eventually soaked through. It soaked through the white more quickly. We think it will make up in a great outerwear swing jacket that will protect from sprinkles or wind, but we do not recommend it as a raincoating. If you're looking for a stylish lightweight jacket, this would be an excellent choice. 60 in

 Painterly
Painterly Silk
This exquisite silk print is in short supply, but we know you will love it and wanted to make it available to you on a limited basis. Printed on lightweight silk crepe, this elegant design is unique and dramatic. Rich ecru ground supports oversized splatters of fuchsia, sapphire and ink with accents of soft camel. Random drops of color soften the boldness of the print. We envision a stunning dress, tunic or blouse. Use few design lines for a bold look or break up the print with seams to lessen the impact. Vertical repeat is about 56 in. Large motifs measure about 10 inches at the widest point. 45 in

Storyboard-This striking collage print features emerald and royal combined with black and soft white. The various blocks contain foliage and outlined florals along with realistic blossoms and ornamental motifs. Choose a pattern with few design lines to show off the print to its fullest or break it up with seams for a smaller look. Consider tunics or dresses as the best canvas. 57 in.  Viscose/elastane. Imported from France
Maxine
cotton woven stripe print

Looking for a dynamic print for summer? The mottled watermelon pink sweeps serve as a backdrop for blackened spots with just a bit of the white ground poking through for accent. Printed on a fine cotton texture made up of varying rows of woven crosswise pinstripes, this fabric will work for dresses, skirts or tops. The 100% cotton fabrication imported for Milly is exceptional in quality and design, and definitely worth adding to your treasures for now or later. 56 in

Orchid Jersey
modal jersey

We love this shade of orchid for springtime tees and tunics. The modal (rayon) stretch jersey is comfortable and substantial. The softened shade of orchid is in vogue and works with solids as well as prints. Try it with our Ooh-la-la Denim in Grape for a great tone-on-tone monochromatic look. 62 in

Sun Prints duo
rayon batiks

Not intended as a duo, but easily worn together or pieced in the same garment, these two batiks share the same color palette. 100% rayon. 44 in

Choose Flora or Fern

Azure Dream
rayon batik

Deep cobalt blue ground supports floral sketches in turquoise. The two tone print allows this design to work well for top, bottom or dress. The delicate sketches soften the bold colorations of the ground. We envision loosely styled tops, skirts, or dresses. 100% rayon. 44 in

Pinata
rayon batik

A carnival of colors awaits in this delightful batik print. The bright mottled ground of golden yellow, hot pink, grape purple, sky blue is covered with curlicues and petal shapes in an all over print. Rayon batik is has soft drape and works well for loose garments in warm climates. Celebrate the season with this colorful print. 100% rayon. 44 in

Wynken Blynken
rayon batik

Cotton/viscose/poly/spandex. Planets orbit amongst the stars in this richly colored rayon batik print. The deep blue/black ground serves as a backdrop to the blue/green colorations of the planetary motifs. Choose a loose dress, a long wrap skirt or a tunic to shop off this stellar print. 100% rayon. 44 in

Passion Berry
rayon batik

Back by popular demand!! There is a wonderful compote of berry shades in this hand-dyed rayon batik. Our customers were so drawn to the print last time that when it became available we brought it in for an encore. Rich periwinkle blossom formations hover over a mottled ground of deep raspberry and grape. The colors and the fabrication lend themselves to a beautiful summery dress or skirt. 44 in

Jeans Junket Sew Along
with Mary Jo
and insights from Jennifer Stern

Mary Jo will lead us in making jeans using Jennifer Stern's jeans pattern and Jennifer will sew along too!

This week from Maryjo:

Let's practice putting in a fly zipper!!

First of all, using a trial-size, mid-weight fabric similar to the weight of your denim, cut out the front pieces, including the pocket bags and fly pieces, using 4" to 6" of the leg below the crotch. This will be a very short, shorts length. We don't need the full pants length for practicing the fly zipper insertion.

You will also need a zipper that is LONGER than the fly opening by a good 2 to 3 inches. See photo:

Snap a picture
of what you have been sewing and email it to me:
We will post it in an upcoming newsletter!

This week from Jennifer Stern:

 Japanese Denim
I agree with Mary Jo about reducing the measurement of the pocket pieces. I have this on my long list of things I want to try... Keep in mind that you will have to stretch the power net to sew it to the jean front pocket opening if you cut out the front pocket facing out of power net.

On another note, I've cut out my jean pieces... obviously I aligned the side seams with the selvage edges. I also used the selvage edges along the side seam edges of the back yoke, denim facing and front fly zipper pieces. Less edges to finish

I'm working with a cotton batik for the pocket bag pieces... I cut those out with the selvage edges aligned with side seam edges a
s well. (I think this will reduce bulk along the side seams
