Staff Spotlight
Shana Neil, TLMF-t
Mental Health Counseling Therapist

Shana is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and one of Horizons' most dedicated employees. Shana is trained in an array of treatments for couples such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy. Shana has worked with couples and families through a wide spectrum of areas including those related to depression, anxiety, co-parenting, and relational concerns. She always goes above and beyond to volunteer her time and share her positive, upbeat attitude!

Shana is an "army brat" and has lived in many places, including Colorado, Germany, California, Oklahoma, Hawaii and most recently, Iowa. Naturally, she still loves to travel and experience new people and places.  We're sure glad that Shana found a home in Iowa and the Horizons Family!

Shana enjoys being active and playing sports. Most of all, she loves to laugh (you know...those belly-wrenching great laughs)!

Thank you, Shana, for being a phenomenal example of Horizons' good people doing good things in good ways.
African American Family & Police Advocacy Program
Horizons was recently awarded a $75,000 grant through the Linn County De-categorization Fund to create an African American Family & Police Advocacy Program. Ashley Turner, who currently works with Family Treatment Court, will be transitioning her role to be the Advocate for this new program.  Ashley will work with individuals and families referred by the Police Department to connect them with services before becoming involved with the Department of Human Services.

If you have questions about the African American Family & Police Advocacy Program, please contact Ashley.
Karl's Corner

"Horizons was recently featured in the national FoodService Director Magazine for our Meals On Wheels Program. The article discusses the "silent epidemic" of senior hunger. The U.S. Census bureau estimates that 27 percent of Iowa's population will be over age 60 by the year 2030, which is an increase of 31% since 2012.

Horizons provides more than 300,000 meals each year to some of our community's most vulnerable residents. Because many of these individuals are homebound, you do not see them every day.  But that does not mean they are not there.  As they struggle quietly, we cannot consciously turn a blind eye to these individuals who raised us as children and shaped our history.

We thank you for your support and ask you to join us in the fight against hunger in our community."

-Karl Cassell, President/CEO

The Return of the Turkey Trot 8K and 4K Family Fun Run/Walk is coming back to Marion on Saturday, November 15! We are introducing a special discounted youth rate this year, and, as always, we will have the popular pancake breakfast after the race!

The race is one of Horizons' biggest fundraisers and we invite you to join us for the fun! Please contact Jenny Barnett if you are interested in volunteering.
