New recruits and business plans

It seems here at Creativity Works we have been recruiting now for months, but we have at last found two new pieces to our jigsaw and are looking forward to welcoming a new co|Create Manager and a new Finance Administrator to the organisation next week. We will be introducing them to you very shortly! The final piece of our jigsaw will be a new apprentice, and we are just finalising details with Norton Radstock College and the Local Enterprise Partnership for their recruitment. Details to follow...

Meanwhile, creating a business plan is always a lengthy and often painful experience. It also gives you time to reflect and to vision hugely ambitious ideas and projects for the future. I am caught this week between panic as the ACE deadline to hand in our business plan looms, and genuine excitement at some of the ideas we have brewing for the next few years. I have recently been reading the work of Darren O'Donnel, Artistic Director of Canadian company, Mammalian Diving Reflex. His words are not for the feint-hearted, but his creativity, imagination, wit and sense of social justice are extremely inspiring...

Course Review: My Time My Space, Midsomer Norton

Looking back at the My Time My Space group that ran in June this year.

We caught up with Judith Parr (Childrens Centre Coordinator) on the My Time My Space group which ran in June this year in Midsomer Norton:

"These groups are a great example of partnership working, and making it work for families in our area. It creates a peer support network for families living with postnatal depression and provides a safe and non-threatening place for them to explore their own creativity. We know that if parents feel supported then that also makes their children do better.

The group in July bonded really well and are still meeting as far as I am aware, some have also gone on to join other groups. Having the wonderful artists working alongside the women and offering activities to help develop confidence and self-esteem over what they can achieve is invaluable. The longer term outcomes of the project include helping the women re-gain perspective within their lives and their wellbeing."

Profile: An insight into working with Creativity Works
A Focus on: Rosie, Communications and Administration Coordinator at Creativity Works.

Job title:

Communications and Administration Coordinator

When did you start working for Creativity Works?

September 2012

What is your professional background?

After a degree in French and Italian at Royal Holloway University I landed myself a job in Bath at an engineering company where I worked in international sales and marketing for 4 and a half years.

Whilst there I travelled a lot for work which I loved, including China, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and much of Europe. I also completed an evening course at Bath College: CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing.

After this I worked at Future Publishing for a bit in their Brand Marketing team, then I moved to Clarks Shoes in Street where I worked in their digital marketing team.

In September 2012 I joined the team at Creativity Works as Communications and Administration Coordinator, working 3 days a week: a role which allows much flexibility and creativity, whilst knowing that you are helping to make a difference to the lives of other people, which is great.

What does a typical day look like for Rosie at Creativity Works?

No two days are the same. When I get into the office I tend to check emails and social media, deal with any enquiries that have come in, then take a moment to research and schedule social media posts for any interesting news items we have from projects or staff. My day can then consist of any number of things from designing leaflets or posters, to working with colleagues to plan promotion of events or courses, editing the website, putting together the monthly email newsletter, placing a stationery order, general admin, updating policies or marketing strategy and anything in between.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

I love the varied nature of the role and the freedom to learn new things and improve and develop systems, procedures and marketing initiatives. I have, for example, bought illustrator and I am teaching myself how to use it in order to design more professional looking posters and leaflets for Creativity Works.

Other News...

Don't miss the "Flowers in the Blood" poetry reading by Beverley Ferguson, a volunteer artist with Creativity Works.

Beverley was a student of Dance, Drama and English at Dartington College of Arts, Devon, qualifying as a teacher. After a career in the caring professions she trained with the Rising Dragon Tai Chi School and taught Tai Chi in Bath. During this period Beverley trained at the Bath Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre and practised as a psychotherapist. She is a founder member of the Centre for Whole Health, Bristol and a founder member of Community Arts Therapies. In 1999 her life's journey took an unexpected direction. She has had two long admissions in psychiatric hospital.

The poems in Flowers in the Blood are responses to her experiences of mental illness, hospital admissions, transitions back into the community and beyond. These experiences continue to inform and shape her creative work as poet, writer and artist.
