Indian Lake Watershed Association Update 11/1/2014
Hapgood Brooks Memorial Plaque
Hapgood Brooks Ceremony

Thank you to everyone who attended the ceremony at the Hapgood-Brooks Memorial this morning. We were completely blessed to have the rain (and snow?!) hold off until about a half hour after we finished!

Thank you to Michele Sloan for taking the fabulous photos. They are up on the ILWA Facebook page:

Absolutely thrilled that we were joined by the Worcester Marine Corps. League Detachment 144 Color Guard. This really added so much to the ceremony.

Thank you to Lincoln MacDonald for your help with the flag before and during the ceremony (!); thank you Mikey Sloan for trimming the trees; Ed Proko for planting the LIVE flowers just before the ceremony; the Benoit family for help with the chairs, power washing the memorial, coffee/donuts and printing the historical booklet; Morgan and Delaney Proko and Sarah Mattison for help with setup, cleanup and during the ceremony; the Danko Family for parking.

We were also joined by City Councilor Tony Economou, Mayor Joe Petty and Karen Greenwood, Director of the City of Worcester Veterans Services Department. Without Karen, this truly would not have been possible.

It was a pleasure to be able to work with St. Peter Marian senior Eric Benoit on this project.

Most of all, thank you to all of you that came and showed your support!

Polar Plunge?

It's almost embarrassing to announce this at this point but nonetheless.... Indian Lake finally stayed under the state cyanobacteria numbers for 2 consecutive weeks. We are clear to re-open. Still a relief to know that we have the thumbs up from the state perspective.

Drawdown

The City of Worcester opened the gates the week of October 20th for the winter drawdown.

We will be doing a 6 foot drawdown this year... this is the larger drawdown to ensure as much of the sediment as possible is exposed.

Fall is the time for..... LEAVES!

As many of you know, there are a handful of us that have been working to fill the giant shoes of Herb Adams on a weekly basis now that he is working a little closer to home rather than in the public spaces he has taken care of for so long. For those who didn't notice in Herb's day, there was rarely a leaf to touch the ground at Morgan Park, Hapgood Brooks Memorial or Frostholm Memorial for more than a minute before our friend would scoop it up. While it's quite impossible for us to keep up at this level, if anyone would like to help with this at any time, we have plenty of rakes and two backpack blowers. There is also quite a bit of trash to be picked up and trimming to be done at Morgan Park. Great community service projects! Email [email protected] if you would like to help but need tools. Otherwise, join in as your time permits.
