IN MEDIA RES
This is year two of In Media Res, an occasional newsletter about De La Salle High School's mission and vision for our students, our families, our alumni, and our community.

In this newsletter, published twice a month during the school year, we share some thoughts about the core values of a Lasallian school and our work in preparing young people for college, career, and life.

In Media Res is Latin for "in the middle of things." I think that sums up high school pretty well. Secondary education in the United States is about readiness and transition. At De La Salle, we seem to be in the middle of a paradox - holding on to timeless values that should never change and adapting to an era of rapid change. Maneuvering this landscape is the heart of what we do.

Record Enrollment
We are still celebrating the record enrollment increase of this new school year. Over the last two years, we have grown 19%. Our opening student body is 525 strong, our largest enrollment since Katrina and the largest percentage increase since 1954. What a way to kick off our 65th anniversary celebration!

When we began to realize how many more young people would be part of the Cavalier family this year, we commissioned a phone survey of all new parents to find out exactly why De La Salle was attracting so many new students. This independent survey, conducted by BrownRice Marketing, spoke with 40% of our new families in extensive phone interviews. The findings were enlightening and affirming.

Not Either/Or - It's About Both
Our new families chose De La Salle because they recognize our faculty's ability to create a world class learning setting in a caring and nurturing environment. They want BOTH for their children and DLS was perceived by these new families as doing just that - the best of both worlds. This is the power of a Lasallian education brought to life everyday by incredible teachers and students.

In addition, our Classrooms of the Future showed these new families that we are serious about preparing our young people with 21st century skills in innovative learning spaces. Our new families responded that this commitment to blend the best of our traditional values with the latest in teaching practices is exactly what they want for their child's future.
