September 16, 2014

Greetings Hot Yogis!

As we celebrate our 11 year anniversary, we are very excited to share our BIG HOT NEWS!

We are moving to a new space, about 5 -10 minutes from our current studio, located at Exit 10 on 270 - talk about fate, we will be once again next to our old neighbor, Metropolitan Ballet Studio, who has moved to the same building we are moving to - 220 Perry Parkway.  In this new space, we will be able to serve you better and offer you more special yoga programs such as master classes by guest teachers, posture clinics, special yoga training, etc. in addition to the awesome regular hot yoga classes we currently offer at BYR.

We anticipate the new studio will be ready by late this Fall. All of our regular BYR teachers and staff will be moving with us and we are thrilled to have a brand new eco-friendly heating system, new flooring, and larger shower facilities, and much more.  We are offering special annual membership rate of $899 for a very limited time to thank our loyal students who have been with us for many years (see below for more details).

Our current studio has been my second home for the last 11 years.  I have had so many special memories with you at this location over the years. I've have met over 19,000 awesome yogis who have entered through our front door.  I am eternally grateful to all of you. All of the BYR Staff and I are so excited for this new endeavor and to share it with our wonderful yoga community, and looking forward to making new memories with you at our new location in the coming years.

Wishing you a healthy and happy spine,

Namaste,

Teacher Testimonial
I'm a 38 year old sixth grade math teacher about to start my 15th year and have been practicing Bikram Yoga for the last 8 years.  Both of my parents are retired teachers who instilled a wonderful sense of determination within me. It is from them that I have a constant desire to make my dreams come true no matter what stage of my life I may be in.

In 2003, I started to train for a long distance running to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I had co-workers who practiced hot yoga at a nearby studio in the Tenleytown neighborhood of Washington, DC. They would ask me to go with them to try out a class. I would always turn my nose up and say, "I'm going to run instead so I can get a real workout." They eventually convinced me to try a class. As someone who grew up doing ballet and later became a runner, I felt this would be a piece of cake (Blueberry Cheesecake as Bikram would say). Boy, was I wrong. I spent most of the class lying on my mat drowning in a pool of my own sweat and praying for the class to end. I recall that by the time the class ended I felt so relieved that I could finally get out of the hot room and go home, I wasn't even bothered that my car was hit in the parking lot! I just bolted home and vowed never to go back.

Years later, after the bruise to my ego wore off, I went with that same friend to a Bikram yoga class again. This time at the Rockville Studio(BYR); I fell in love with it at my first pranayama deep breath. That was in March of 2006. As a teacher by trade, I grew a strong desire to become a Bikram yoga teacher. Due to the cost and time constraint of the training, it seemed an impossible dream. 7 years later, I've figured out how to tackle that once seeming impossibility, and I headed to Los Angeles for 9 weeks.

I'm not going to pretend it was easy-96 classes in 63 days. At the end, the tremendous sense of accomplishment outweighed the difficulty of the training. I'm am so lucky to have a mentor in Diana, who welcomed me back as a staff member here at BYR.

The past 9 months as a Bikram yoga teacher has been such an amazing experience. Having the chance to help other people with their practice, and having each of them helping me with my practice. Being at the podium has made me realize the hard work and determination of all of the practioners. I have a tremendous sense of admiration for them. I want to thank the BYR Staff and our students for allowing me share our Bikram journey. Namaste. -Alyssa
