Well Wishers Gather at Retirement Reception
Students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends gathered on May 11 for a Retirement Reception celebrating Head of Lower School
Patti Brooks
, whose thirty-three years of dedicated service to Lakehill will be long remembered.
"Patti Brooks has been a dedicated teacher and administrator at Lakehill for more than three decades," said Headmaster
Roger Perry. "She always had a special way of determining strategies to help children reach their full potential. She was thinking outside the box before it ever became trendy."
"As an educator and administrator, she has been strong yet compassionate, steadfast yet flexible, demanding yet realistic, serious yet funny and fun-loving," added Assistant Head of School
Lara Gajkowski. "Mrs. Brooks has always set high standards - for her students and for us - yet the expectations she has for all of us often pales in comparison to the expectations she sets for herself."
Students at the reception shared special memories and even brought back work they had completed in second grade to present to Brooks. Some enthusiastically recited the "helping verbs" they had learned in her classroom a decade before. The hugs were prevalent. "That's what I'll miss most," said Brooks. "The children and all their hugs."
"Mrs. Brooks has been a beacon of hope and light to thousands of families," said Gajkowski. "It is difficult to imagine Lakehill without her."
"Ms. Brooks has always been one of the most inspirational people in my life," said sophomore
Katie McKnight. "She always sees the best in people, and has this way of making other people shine."
