September 5-7, 2014
The Rev. Rock Higgins, using the theme of 'Taste and See,' will lead us in intergenerational activities that will be varied, fun, and creative. As we have fun with these activities, we will reflect together on the experiences, about what we've learned from each other, and we will trust in the Holy Spirit to bring about something new. Are you anticipating surgery--routine or otherwise? Do you need an extra helping hand for the short-term? Could you use some help with errands? Do you need a ride to church? Please DO let the Rev Valerie Hayes know! For congregational care, the parish has begun using the Time to Sign Up website to organize the need for and volunteer efforts to support our parish family. Keep aware as we continue to use Time to Sign Up for parish-wide support. Please contact the Rev. Valerie Hayes for more information or if you have a need.

Is life feeling overwhelming at the moment? Have you experienced or are you anticipating a loss or transition? Are you facing a difficult decision? You may find the support of a Stephen Minister helpful during this period of time. Stephen Ministers are congregation members trained to offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to people going through tough times. If you would like more information, please contact the Rev. Valerie Hayes.

Sunday and Mid-Week Bible Study
Sunday and Mid-Week Bible Study for Adults will be offered throughout the program year beginning on Sunday, September 14 and on Wednesdays at 12:10 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. The entire parish--from school aged children to our teens to adults--will be using The Story curriculum. This curriculum is a Bible study intended to increase Biblical literacy, family cohesiveness, and parish connectedness. Beginning in Genesis, the curriculum will study the major Biblical themes (Stories) and provide reading, study, and reflection questions to connect Your Story with God's Story in the Bible. For more information, please contact the Rev. Valerie Hayes.
|
Open Circles book groups (that meet in the homes of parishioners) are creating one or two new groups, and one of the existing groups has an opening. If you are interested in this Adult Formation & Fellowship program, please contact the Rev. Valerie Hayes.

Would you like to play a bigger role in making outreach and mission opportunities available to Holy Comforter parishioners? Our Outreach Team works on behalf of the congregation to coordinate local, national, and international outreach projects and connect parishioners with opportunities to serve in Christ's name in our community, nation, and world. If you'd like to explore joining our team, you would be most welcome! For more information, please contact Susan McGuire. |
Our Daily Bread November Deliveries
Our next ODB deliveries will be Sunday November 9. We welcome your contributions of non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies, and toiletries at the ODB display in the Narthex. We are also collecting monetary donations so that families can purchase fresh grocery items. If you have questions about our parish's Our Daily Bread ministry or would like to help with our November deliveries (filling grocery bags, organizing, shopping, or delivering), please contact Susan McGuire or Chris Ostendorff. We are grateful for volunteers of all ages! We also have some food pantry organization projects that would be great for teens or families interested in contributing a few service hours. Thank you for your support of this ministry!

Preschool through 2nd grade will use illustrated story Bibles to teach age-appropriate lessons filled with interactive activities. Each child will receive Bible cards (like baseball trading cards) that summarize each lesson, and parent take-home sheets with activities for the family that reinforce the lesson. 3rd through 6th graders will be given a Bible that reads like a novel but also has discussion questions included. Registration forms for new students will be available on Sunday. Questions? Contact Lisa Arthur. 3-year-olds and young 4-year-olds: room 148

Classes this year will be divided into 7th and 8th Grades, 9th and 10th Grades, and 11th and 12th Grades. Look for more information soon on your teachers and classroom locations. Questions? Greeting people with no qualifications known on either side has kept the Christian Church alive for thousands of years. We ask you to consider this mission as part of your life. A sincere welcome is within you all and is important to us all. We will be making up a bimonthly schedule starting again this September and October. Please join us whenever you are moved to do so. If we have enough volunteers, it will only require once a month service. Please contact Herb Langford (703-938-1304) to volunteer or for more information.
