AAI IN ACTION

Thank You, Lynn!
The AAI office was fortunate to have the help of Lynn Kellner through one of our busiest times of the year. Lynn has been helping fill the role of Admin Assistant  at the Des Moines office since January 2016. Lynn moved back to Iowa with her husband in January to be closer to family after living in Missouri for nearly 10 years.

The whole staff at AAI truly values her commitment to the job responsibilities and the support that she has provided us. She has been our voice on the phone and the face of AAI at the front desk for nearly 4 months and we could not have done it without her! We wish her the best luck in all her future endeavors.
2016 Membership Directory Update
Each spring the association publishes its Membership Directory. We are pleased to let our members know that each voting member and paid member contact will be receiving their copy in the first weeks of May. Not sure if you are on the list? Give us a call at 515-868-0314 and our communications department can let you know if your membership included an annual directory.

This year we chose to use Sutherland Printing, a family owned operation located in Montezuma, for our printing and mailing services. Packaging for this year's directory may look different than previous years. Offices that will receive multiple directories will be shipped via courier. Keep a look out for our directory in the mail. If you have questions please feel free to contact us.

New additions to the reference section include an Iowa DNR emergency spill line tab, updated membership information, and detailed state/national organization lists.

All membership changes, additions, and updates where made in the 2016 directory effective April 1, 2016. Any changes made after this date can not be guaranteed to be reflected in the 2016 edition of the directory.

ISU Think Tank on Agriculture
Joel Brinkmeyer, AAI CEO, was a presenter at ISU's 'Think Tank on Animal Agriculture' on Monday evening, April 25.   Other groups also in attendance where the Institute of Coops, Iowa Corn, and Iowa Soybeans. Each presented information regarding their respective association activities and the interactive relationships with the Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Brinkmeyer reviewed the history of AAI, membership structure, priority legislative & regulatory concerns. He also gave an overview on the scholarships and agronomic relationships with ISU and the new Public - Private Partnership between ISU CALS and the Iowa Nutrient Research and Education Council (INREC). This partnership opportunity has provided INREC a $750,000 funding source, made available through legislative action taken in 2015. The funding supports three year pilot projects regarding statistical data gathering of product and practice implementation by farmers that will have positive impacts regarding the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy.

Approximately 40 ISU faculty and staff, industry representatives and retired agribusiness persons attended the event which was held at the Iowa Cattlemen's Association headquarters in Ames.  Don Beitz, Distinguished Professor in Agriculture, served as emcee of the event.

Scholarship Honors Late Farm Broadcaster
by: Agribusiness Report

A new scholarship honoring the late farm broadcaster Mark Pearson is now available to help young Iowa ag leaders.

The Mark Pearson FFA Leadership Scholarship provides full-tuition to qualifying Iowa FFA Chapter Presidents attending DMACC.  President of DMACC, Rob Denson, spearheaded the scholarship.  He says they want the FFA presidents showcased as leaders of Iowa's future. According Denson, Mark Pearson was the master of ceremonies at the FFA Enrichment Center groundbreaking, very supportive of DMACC, and a personal friend.

"Very soon after Mark passed away, Eden and the Governor and I met, and said, 'Look, we need to do something significant for him.' We looked around for something that was a great fit. And then because he had two kids, Ellie and Betsy, who were FFA leaders we said, 'This is it, we're going to offer the scholarship and there's nothing like it in the country," said Denson.

"I remember Mark as a promoter, motivator, and a friend to everyone in agriculture," said Agribusiness Association of Iowa Foundation CEO Joel Brinkmeyer. "I think this is a tremendous way to honor his legacy and his family." The Agribusiness Association of Iowa (AAI) Foundation is currently the 3rd largest contributor supporting the fundraising effort by making a $30,000 three year pledge.
