Dear Millers and Subscribers to The International Milling Directory!
There has been another busy month of visits, talks, conferences, exhibitions and much more since my last newsletter. We are preparing and setting about our new print edition too, and expect it to cement and grow its place at the forefront of milling.
We welcomed two important partners, Ruwan Burcelo and Vincent Veelbehr, on Thursday 20th March from the well-renowned international VIV events.
There was extra excitement when Rob Shorland-Ball visited our main offices to give some great insight to the story and history of rollers mills, covering the end of stone milling to today's world of converted and disused mills, and changes through consolidation in countries like the USA and UK and expansion in the Middle East, Africa and beyond.
The GRAPAS award has been at the centre of a lot of our activity here, because it is so crucial to the milling industry. The biennial award was presented by the International Milling Directory's own Publisher-in-Chief, Roger Gilbert. There was great interest and anticipation for this exciting event. In one and a half days, from 8th to 10th April at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre, there were hundreds of milling directories distributed to attendees of GRAPAS and the concurrent VICTAM exhibition.
There will be an event review, photographs and more in the next issue of our sister publication, 'Grain & Feed Milling Technology' magazine very soon for you all. We took a large number of magazines and directories to the exhibition. It was amazing to see how visitors were asking for copies. In fact, we did not have enough copies to get us through to the end of the show and had to take address details to forward copies after the show.
Our directory was also included as a free gift to delegates attending the GRAPAS Conference which PPL hosted. We had 120 pre-registrations with additional people turning up on the day. Again most of the directories laid out in the conference room were taken. We think the industry globally is appreciative of the content which we have now provided through the directory for millers and their purchasing departments.
We also think as event organisers move away from publishing meaningful exhibition and event catalogues, publications such as the IMD have a more important role to play in providing up-to-date contact details and equipment information (which we do through our product guides). IMD is proving its worth and it is still free for companies to list their contact details.
Don't miss the opportunity to be included in IMD 2014/15! We have worked hard over the past five or six years to make IMD an invaluable and up-to-date source of company product and service information. We have also stuck to print while developing our digital IMD presence. We now prepare for VIV India and the 2nd Global Milling Conference (GMC) in Bangalore, India.
For UK visitors at this show, there is an opportunity for the British High Commission in Bangalore to help you and for them to send staff have a small booth. They will also arrange a networking reception and will want to invite all UK visitors. Some great International Milling Directory member companies are taking roles as participating sponsors and speakers:- from Bhler, GMP+ International, FrigorTec, PD Navkar and more, this will be a must-attend event! And finally, we offer our congratulations to Victam International once again for hosting a great VICTAM / FIAAP / GRAPAS Asia 2014 event! We also congratulate 4B Braine Conveyors of the UK, Buhler of Switzerland and Morillon of France for their success in the GRAPAS Awards for 2014!
