Building for God
"Consider now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a temple as a sanctuary. Be strong and do the work." I Chronicles 28:10
We are nearly done with the renovation of the Narthex.  Because of budget restraints, we had to cut having an elevator as well as an interior ramp from the plans.  Session, nevertheless remains committed to handicap accessibility.  How, then can we get this done?
"Be strong and do the work."  At our most recent Session meeting several proposals were brought from the Growing for Tomorrow Campaign Committee to build a new ramp that were all beyond our budget.  Rather than dip further into our increasingly limited endowment, the Session decided on a leap of faith to do it ourselves!
With a Memorial Gift of $5,000 by Karen and Bob Machin in memory of Harry and June Steel the Stewardship Ministry Team Facilities Committee has been able to purchase the materials needed to repair the ramp and railings.  We plan to have a "Labor Day Month" - literally - building the ramp beginning on the Wednesday after Labor Day (September 3) and continuing until it is completed.
Anyone who enjoys carpentry or has experience with building is encouraged to join us.  I truly believe the Lord works in mysterious ways, because this is something I cannot imagine having taken on just a year ago.  But since then Karl Peterson has tutored me in woodworking, and I became aware that we have a lot of untapped talent in our congregation and that building (thank God) is not rocket science.  We have the gifts to do this!
The Lord has chosen us to carry on his mission.  Part of that mission is having a place where people can worship, learn about God, turn their lives around from addiction, and serve the community.  We are privileged to have a wonderful facility.  If you can come next week to help with our rebuilding of the ramp, you will be put to work!  And, you will do a great service for those who find it difficult to go up stairs, but are an important part of our community.
Grace and Peace,
Jean Pinto

MISSION FOR THE MONTH

Princeton Theological Seminary prepares women and men to serve Jesus Christ in ministries marked by faith, integrity, scholarship, competence, compassion, and joy, equipping them for leadership worldwide in congregations and the larger church, in classrooms and the academy, and in the public arena.

A professional and graduate school of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Seminary stands within the Reformed tradition, affirming the sovereignty of the triune God over all creation, the Gospel of Jesus Christ as God's saving word for all people, the renewing power of the word and Spirit in all of life, and the unity of Christ's servant church throughout the world. This tradition shapes the instruction, research, practical training, and continuing education provided by the Seminary, as well as the theological scholarship it promotes.

In response to Christ's call for the unity of the church, the Seminary embraces in its life and work a rich racial and ethnic diversity and the breadth of communions represented in the worldwide church. In response to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, the Seminary offers its theological scholarship in service to God's renewal of the church's life and mission. In response to God's sovereign claim over all creation, the Seminary seeks to engage Christian faith with intellectual, political, and economic life in pursuit of truth, justice, compassion, and peace.

To these ends, the Seminary provides a residential community of worship and learning where a sense of calling is tested and defined, where Scripture and the Christian tradition are appropriated critically, where faith and intellect mature and life-long friendships begin, and where habits of discipleship are so nourished that members of the community may learn to proclaim with conviction, courage, wisdom, and love the good news that Jesus Christ is Lord.

All gifts marked "Mission" will be used to support Princeton Theological Seminary.  Give generously.

To My Church Family,

Thank you so much for the cards, visits and prayers during my recent health problem. They meant a lot to me and I'm sure have helped in my recovery. I am feeling and doing much better. Right now I'm staying with Peachy at her house and am grateful I have such great friends. Again thank you for all your prayers.

Yours in Christ,

Rosemarie Wales

It's Back on Saturday, November 1, 9 - 2 p.m.

On Saturday, November 1, 2014 you can beat the Christmas rush by coming to our Dickens of a Christmas Holiday Bazaar and find all your Christmas presents. It is time to start preparing for it now!  Queen Victoria's Deck the Hall Boutique will be filled with beautiful gifts, from Lenox China to Longenberger baskets. At Bob Cratchit's Soup and Snacks you can have a relaxing lunch. Bob's wife will be busy herself with Mrs. Cratchit's Sweet Shoppe, where you'll be able to find homemade cakes, pies, cookies and muffins.

Marley's Auction House will have some great items up for bid, including a fabulous counted cross stitch Christmas tree skirt, a bassinet, and Christmas gift baskets.  Now for the fun part - you can help.  We need you to "adopt" a basket .  We'll supply the basket if you don't have one.  Between now and October 19, fill it with items. You can make a basket to represent your nationality - an "Italian basket" with spaghetti, potholders and a bottle of olive oil or a "Scottish basket" filled with shortbread, scones, tea and a teacup.  Make up a "Night at the Movies Basket" with a new DVD and some packages of popcorn and a couple of Hershey bars.

There are many ways you can make our Christmas Bazaar a success. Spread the word among your friends. Bring in new items or collectibles that we can sell. if you like to do needlework or woodworking, make something and donate it for the silent auction.  Call Gloria Hanewald at 582-0511 or Rose Wales at 584-1687 if you would like more information or you would like to help.

On Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., a funeral service for Hardeo "Harry" Chhedi will be held in the United Presbyterian Church sanctuary.  Calling hours will be from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the church and a luncheon will follow the service in Fellowship Hall.  Our sympathy is extended to Harry's family, wife, Soam, son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Meera, and daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Rich Gomez.
