Notes from Sunday's Sermon
"FIRESIDE CHAT" ( John 21:1-14

Sometimes when you have fallen, it's good to go back to where it all began. Here Jesus is going to offer Peter another starting point, a second chance to make things right.

Often we underestimate just how strong our faith is. We have all thought at different times in our lives that if we had to go through a tragedy like a sudden death, illness, or accident, we couldn't handle it . . . yet when  the time came you realize that your faith was stronger than you had thought. But at the same time, we often overestimate our strength and our need for others and for the strength of God's Spirit and power.

Peter was sure that he would never do what he did. And many of us make the claim that we would never find ourselves in the sins that others commit. But we never know. That is why we should always be vigilant, always on guard. Peter never thought that he would deny even knowing Jesus Christ. That's why 1 Corinthians 10:12 says, "If you think you are strong, you should be careful not to fall."

Peter was overconfident. But Peter learned that he wasn't as strong as he thought, and because of his mistake made, Peter was humbled and became honest about his spiritual condition. Three times Peter had failed, and three times he is restored; and done so in full view of all the others. Now they all knew that the Rock was back. Peter had been restored. No matter how gross your past may have been, Jesus stands not only ready to forgive, but also to restore. He can restore you and use you for His glory.

A Mission-Driven Church

Our Mission...
The Memorial Tabernacle Church has come together by the Holy Spirit for the specific purpose of preaching and teaching the word of God, (the Bible), and about Jesus Christ, God's son, and to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of God to the North Oakland Community and its environs; to bring healing to the brokenhearted and deliverance to the oppressed.

Administrative Porfessionals Day!
"And God has appointed these in the church . . . gifts of . . . helps, administrations" - 1 Corinthians 12:28, NKJV

Today is Administrative Professionals Day and I know of no one more deserving of recognition and honor than Sister Tiffany E. Grant . I have been blessed for over the past ten years to work with Sister Tiffany E. Grant who is my administrative assistant. I can honestly say that I don't know what I would do without her professionalism, skills, wisdom, and spiritual guidance and support. Tiffany, actually, does more than just assist me in my ministerial and pastoral duties; she also oversees and a number of ministries in our church and provides assistance wherever it is needed. She creates and designs our communications and social media network. Tiffany also represents me in many community, social, educational, and political affairs. She is an invaluable resource of knowledge and influence in our church and community.

I could not thank her enough for all she's done to support and assist me and the church in its many missions and outreach endeavors. Please show your love by sending a message or note of thanks to Sister Tiffany E. Grant on Administrative Professional Day! -- PASTOR STEPHEN KING
